I used it when i was fishing off a jetty in southern california, catching mostly bonita, mackerel, perch and the occasional sting ray or small leopard shark....worked well removing the hook in those fish ... however think this would work best in freshwater applications where the fish are generally smaller .... can see this taking a hook out of a barracuda.... the sheath and lanyard are a nice touch..... two less things to clutter the box ... make sure you have a rag to clean this before you fold them back in or you will have a crusty mess in there. I tested the pliers with heavy fishing line and also some wire leaders (that i use fo the more toothy fish) ... cut both with no problem at all. I will update my review as i gain more experience with this product .... i am going on a trip to catalina island, so these pliers should get a workout.I will update my review as i gain more experience with this producti received this product for free or at a promotional price for testing and evaluation purposes.
