4.5 🌟What blew me away was the excellent prose. Anindita’s writing is breathtaking. It comes across as effortless although when you take each sentence apart you know how much thought has gone into it. I liked both Shashi and Tara’s parts but was more intrigued and involved when reading Tara’s.The book kept me hooked until about the 250th page and it surprised me that at that point I wished it would end soon. It would have been even better had it been 40-50 pages shorter and with a better ending.I can’t wait to read the author’s future novels.

Absolutely Brilliant!!!
The story of Shashi and her estranged daughter,Tara, THE ILLUMINATED is one of the best literary works I've read in recent years. The book begins with a death. Shashi loses her husband and Tara, her dad. Both deal with the loss in different ways. I loved everything about the book - from the idea to the character development, the backstories from Shashi's life, Tara's recklessness and the author's style. The author has a distinctive voice that I liked a lot. I will be waiting for her next.

A decent debut novel.
It's not such a thrilling read to be honest but it somehow kept me interested, maybe just for the sake of reading. Language is good, characters are fine and there is no plot really. It unfolds well but the catharsis wasn't anything spectacular.
