I actually liked this tamper quite a bit when it arrived. The base feels well machined and precise. The plastic handle is quite an attractive material and color.One thing I did notice immediately is that it is much more bottom heavy than most tampers. It feels out-of-balance. Doesn't so much effect the function of the thing... but the sense of quality. The plastic itself is the same way... while it's pretty to look at it, it does feel kind of cheap... which brings me to the real problem (as other have noted already):The handle is quite fragile. Now I imagine that if you're not a big lumbering oaf like I am, you could maybe have this thing for years... I went a year exactly before knocking it off the counter... and when it hit the ground, the handle exploded. I don't think that falling from a three and a half foot counter on to a wooden floor should cause shrapnel.

The handle came broken. Also the tamper is undersized, I measured it at 57.8 mm. I've been having a horrible time getting a tamper from amazon, the first 2 which are really nice were mislabeled and the wrong size, and now this one. hopefully the 4th one is the charm!
