Cats recommend them 4 - 0
Our vet suggested these for one of our cats. The cat Beau will be on Lysin for the rest of his life and the vet cautioned that they have had issues with some cats taking the Lysin. Well not these Lysin. We have a clowder of cats and in the morning they all line up for these Lysin bites. They love the taste, it does not cause any stomach issues or diarrhea, no stool softness. The treats do not smell or have an after odor. They seem very effective and have maintained our cats energy levels. If you are purchasing a Lysin product I can tell you these are the "treat" of choice for Mimi, Beau, Bobo, and Atticus. They come and remind me it is time for their treat.

Lysine Price Comparison
Executive summary: This product is half as expensive as the 120 chew Lysine product for equal doses. I compared this product (6.35 oz) with Vetri-Lysine Plus, 120 chews, 5.29 oz. At the time I bought both, this product cost $12.00 and the 120 chews cost $16.81 (free shipping on both). The only way to effectively compare prices is cost per dose. This required counting the number of chews in this product: there were ~430 chews in the 6.35 oz package. Since the dosage is 5 chews for 250mg of Lysine, it works out to 86 doses, or 14 cents per dose. With the other product containing 120 chews, the dosage is 2 chews for 250mg of Lysine, so 60 doses. That works out to 28 cents per dose - twice as expensive! Having said that, I still like having both products around, but I mainly use this one since it is half the price. If my cat is having a bad day with his eye weeping, it's easy to give him a couple of the "120 chews" to boost his dosage. My vet said that 250mg is actually too low for weepy eye problems related to herpes, and recommended at least 500mg per day. He said there was a study that 1000mg per day works even better for eye problems related to herpes, but I feel like that's a bit excessive. So I put a handful of these chews - 5 to 10 - in Yuri's food and maybe boost it with a couple of the other chews as necessary. I only rated this product with 4 stars because I'm not sure how much it actually helps with weepy eye. It's one of those problems where there are good days and bad days, so it's hard to tell how much Lysine actually helps. It seems to be a little better with Lysine, so I keep my cat on it. Update 9/27/2013: My cat Yuri was never diagnosed with herpes via an eye swab test, because they have to put them under and stick a swab under their eye. Instead, the vet tried several different eye ointments with antibiotics and none really worked great, so the conclusion was that he had herpes. He did better on the ointments or gentomycin eyedrops than without them. When the last bottle of eyedrops ran out, my vet said I could also try human eye drops. Even without Lysine, Yuri does just as well or better on human Allergy Relief eye drops, one in the morning and one at night, as he did on antibiotics. A different vet did mention that it could be a blocked or deformed tear duct that made his eyes water, so who knows? But the human eye drops are working great to control his tearing. I also switched from Iams cat food to "Before Grain". I always had to coax Yuri to eat the Iams, but now that he is on BG, he eats great and is much healthier overall. The price for BG on Amazon is about the same as Iams in the grocery store: $2/lb or so. Highly recommended.

Formula has changed for the worst!!
I have three cats who require lysine. These treats were my go-to until now. They have changed the formula and it is now terrible -- only one of my three cats will touch them now. In the past, the treats have been small, dark brown, uniform in size, and sort of chewy. My cats went crazy for them. But the last package I ordered contained treats that were pale, crumbly, and not uniform in size. They looked old/stale/damaged, so I thought it was a bad batch and returned that package. I purchased another from a different seller and received the same thing -- the second package contained the same pale powdery treats. Looking through the reviews and product questions, it is clear that the company has changed the formula. However, I see some people saying the pale ones are the new formula, and other people saying the dark brown ones are the new formula. For me, the pale ones are new, and they suck -- I want the dark brown ones from the past. I emailed Vetoquinol directly from their website to ask for clarification, but they didn't bother to respond. So on top of my general dissatisfaction, I am also really underwhelmed by their customer service. I'm attaching a picture to show the two versions. On the left is the pale crumbly version that they seem to be selling now; if you squeeze these or try to break them, they just dissolve into powder (and the bag had a good one inch of powder in the bottom). On the right are the smaller dark brown ones that my cats have enjoyed in the past -- you can see in the picture that these can be torn into smaller pieces with no crumbling. Since apparently it isn't possible to get the small dark brown ones anymore, I am forced to find another brand. I find it really disappointing that the company would mess around like this on a product that many of us rely on to keep our cats healthy, and that we pay a premium for ($25+ per bag!). If they had responded to my inquiry, I might feel a little less disgusted, but they didn't, and I see others posting here who tried to get answers but were also ignored. I think that stinks, just like these new treats do. (PS - Both sellers I bought from were fine, no complaints there. This is purely an issue with the manufacturer.) UPDATE: Well it seems they have now settled on a new formula that is totally different from the versions I mention in this review. Now the treats come in new packaging (plastic pouch with a clear front panel), and the treats are dark-ish brown, super dense, and hard as a rock. My cat can't chew them, and I can't break them with my fingers, but I am able to cut them up with a sharp knife. The cat will then eat the small pieces. I don't know what is going on at Vetoquinol, but they sure seem to be going further and further downhill. Unbelievable.

Cats hate them
Upon inspection I canโt blame the cats for not liking them. Theyโre definitely interested about the flavor, but the treats have uneven sizes and a tough, dense texture thatโs too difficult for them to eat more than one or two. I donโt know if thatโs supposed to be like that or if we got a bad batch. If these were softer I think they would go crazy for them.

These really work and could save your cats' lives!!! These work better than the oral gel.
This review is for "Vetoquinol Enisyl-F Lysine Bites: L-Lysine Chews for Cats & Kittens - Chicken Liver-Flavor". Let me start by saying that if your cats / kittens have the herpes virus (aka feline viral rhinotracheitis (FVR)) then these bites can save your cats' lives. I bought these for my sweetheart for the stray cats and kittens that she has hanging around her house that all got really, really sick and were all showing symptoms of FVR. This stuff is like a little miracle in each bite. After giving these bites to the one cat for a day, he didn't have a runny nose anymore. Then after the second day, he could meow again and the crusty stuff on his nose was gone. Then after the third day, the crusty stuff on his eye was going away, and he could open his eye again. By the fifth day, the respiratory problem seemed to be going away, and he could breathe right again. Now I'm not a vet nor is my sweetheart, so we can't say positively that these bites are a cure and didn't just help with the symptoms. BUT, these bites also helped some other cats and some kittens that had the exact same symptoms going on, and they got "better" also and just as quickly. I can't see where that is just a coincidence. We firmly believe that these bites helped save the lives of those cats / kittens. Now anytime the cats get a runny nose or something like that then my sweetheart gives them these bites for a few days and it seems to clear it right up. I had previously purchased the Vetoquinol oral gel for her for the cats and that seemed to work really well. These bites work SOOO much better and the cats seem to love the taste. (The oral gel must not taste as good because the cats didn't want to eat it after a while even though they seemed to love the taste in the beginning.) We highly recommend these bites and will definitely be buying more of these bites instead of the gel. They really work!!!!! Hope this helps and have a great and blessed day! :)

Cat goes crazy for these "treats"
Our 10-year-old, male cat absolutely loves these. I gave him one to sample and he tried climbing up my leg to get to the bag in my hand immediately afterwards, this is not something he does. It has only been a few days that he has been taking them now, so not sure of the health benefit effect, very much hoping they help with his upper congestion & sneezing, which doesn't seem to be getting much better no matter what the vet prescribes.

Can't even cut them with the knife!!!
We have 3 cats in our household and all of them refuse to it these treats. One of my cats tried a piece and immediately spat it out. I totally understood why when I tried to chop one piece with a knife to add it to their wet food.....they are so hard to cut, never mind about chewing these things! Whole package went strait to the garbage!
