Student Lab Notebook: Top Bound 100 Carbonless Duplicate Sets

This lab notebook works really well if you need to turn in a copy of your work and hold onto one for notes.

PROS:1) It's carbonless, which makes making duplicating copies so much easier without having to deal with the actual carbon sheet.2) The carbon copies are white in color, which make it a lot easier to read and for graders to grade. Many others would come in yellow or blue.3) Carbon copies are perforated.CONS:1) It's not spiral-bound, but rather like a flip book where you turn the pages vertically. When I am working in the lab, trying to go back some pages to look at older data, this become a huge hassle.2) The actual copies are not perforated.In general, it's a great lab notebook where your writing gets transferred to the next page cleanly without having to have a carbon paper. The only problem I really have is that it is not spiral-bound. When I am dealing with dangerous chemicals in the lab, I don't want to have to pick up my lab book to flip some pages back and forth. It would be easier if I could lay in flat on the desk and navigate through my work easily.

These lab notebooks are far less expensive than the ones sold at my university bookstore, and they accomplish the same function of making duplicates of everything entered into the lab notebook. However, the pages in front fold over the top to rest behind the rest of the notebook, and since these contain 100 pairs, the wad of paper you have to hold behind the notebook towards the end can be a bit bulky. However, this little hassle is worth it to me to save the money. The paper is good quality and I've never had any problems with these notebooks, though I've been using them for years. I would recommend them to friends.Edit: I've noticed that other reviewers mention that the original copies don't tear out of the lab notebook. This is because original copies are *never* meant to be torn out of a lab notebook. Working in a research lab, original copies are crucial to the scientific record and are important evidence for publication and patenting. Therefore, although people might find it inconvenient that they can't rip out original pages easily, this is an important function of these lab notebooks.

This lab notebook has everything I need in a lab notebook for my lab courses at UCSD. The TOC @ the front of the notebook and the boxes on the top of each page are great organizational tools included with this lab note book. The pages are tightly bound to the binding, yet the carbonless copy sheets tear out cleanly along the perforation; there is no spiral binding to get in your way.The only thing I don't like about this particular lab notebook is that the cardboard/card-stock flap that protects from note transfer to the successive carbonless copy sheets does not go all the way to the top, leaving the header portion unprotected. Especially with how hard I write, it is rather easy to transfer the text of your header to the header of the next couple carbonless copy sheets. This of course makes it difficult for your instructor/TA to read that part if they require them to be turned in. Otherwise, this is a great lab notebook for use in your studies.

This notebooks served its purpose well. It got me through two semesters of chemistry. My only complaint is the top bound style, as I found it really intrusive as I got further into my notebook and the previous pages made it harder for me to have a clean, hard, flat surface to write on for new pages. Good notebook, but I'll get the spiral bound one next time. Also, I wish that the grid lines were just a little lighter and that the yellow pages' markings came out a lil darker. That's all.

Used this for my chemistry lab and it is perfect. Has duplicate pages and table of contents.
