In this superb documentary, Tom Brokaw travels America to tell the stories of individual men and women. You will meet people whose stories and everyday lives reveal how a generation preserved freedom in World War II and went on to build modern America.

Fine series
The WWII military personnel and their families did not choose to go through the Depression, nor did they choose to start and participate in the Great War. Rather, the events chose them, as the times choose us all. We do not select our gender, our nationality, our skin color, our DNA or most of the other important factors that affect our lives. Thus, I would quibble a bit that this group was the Greatest Generation. So are they all. That said, this is a fine series about the people who experienced one of the most eventful eras in our history, along with the American Revolution and the Civil War periods. Out of those eras the country became stronger--and lost, sadly, people who might have contributed much more. The stories shown here are very effective and affecting. Were the participants heroes? Many men who received the highest medals say no--that they were doing these deeds because they were afraid not to do them. After all, no one hopes to be a coward. There is great sadness in all this and much reason to have our convictions restored in the basic goodness of humans.

Very Good History Lesson
I liked this documentary a lot. I was a small child during the war, only 9 years old when it ended. This documentary taught me so much that I never knew about WWII. My father was not in the war and the only relative I had that was, did not talk about his experiences. I also liked the collectors packaging, the discs will be safe from damage for many years to come. Thank you.

Greatest generation purchase
I received the 3 DVD package by Tom Brokaw, The Greatest Generation. I was very happy with the speed with which it arrived at my home. The cellophane was still on the package as though it were brand new right off the store shelf. Can't for get that the reason I purchased this 3 DVD package was the price, it was just what I wanted to pay for it. thanks. Doug

This is okay and I admire Tom Brokaw for doing this. There are so many documentaries now online about World War IIand I hate to rate any of them because this was our greatest generation. If I had to rate the greatest generation it would be a six although that's not an option here. I suggest watching many of these documentaries is you will learn different things from each of them.

Love this DVD set
Love this DVD set. Touching stories on certain individual lives of soldiers from WWII, sometimes comparing their lives and mentality, to their children's (the baby boomers). Well-done documentary.

The content was not what I was expecting
The product was not what I was expecting. The DVD was labeled part, 1, leaving me to believe that I didn’t get everything, and that there was a part 2. Anyway, the content was shallow and not what I was expecting after hearing abut it for so long. I had heard about this documentary for sometime and was really looking forward t it.
