Deerfield Sliding Glass Door Deadbolt Lock (Aluminum Frame - White)

After doing some research, I realized that the wooden dowel I had in the track of my sliding glass patio door would only stop my door from being slide open side to side by an intruder. However, if an intruder new how sliding doors were inistalled, they would know how to lift my sliding door UP (not side to side) off of the track and gain entry. THUS, having this lock, which prevents movement both side to side as well as up and down, makes us feel much more secure. The only catch is that it is made for aluminum (or wood) sliding patio doors -- i believe this is because the lock peg pushes into a small hole drilled into the door, and if this is pulled on repeately, the vinyl hole in the door will warp and the lock will be ineffective. That being said, I find this lock to be easy to install (I am a truly novice -- I used my rechargable drill, followed the instructions on where to put a few holes, drilled in some screws and it was done), as well as very effective. I woul definitely recommend this lock.

This is a pretty good item, but it is not as secure as I would like. Easy enough to install with a drill and screw driver. If you don't get the knob real tight when you engage the bar, someone who fools with the door enough could make it jiggle out. I also don't think it would keep some one form removing the door, if they used a little force. I think a 2 x 4 is about as secure.

I am very cautious purchasing anything outside of Amazon for fulfillment...I bit the apple on this one and now will NEVER buy from sellers. What was a deal breaker, the item arrived defected. I contacted the seller, they were nothing but the rudest people I have ever dealt with. My wife had passed away after I placed the order. After an initial email to contact the seller, in an email they came back and told me it doesn't come defective? What? Don't we all wish that. So, after rebutting my initial complaint that was completely valid, they tell me to take pictures and start sending them over. I'm the consumer, I paid you for your product. Ridiculous that anyone would ask to spend time taking pictures, uploading them, emailing them back, etc. After I mentioned that my wife had passed, they asked why I didn't tell them that. I shouldn't have to explain anything to get the customer service I deserve.A single star for shipping the product on time.

hard to instal

Great quality & performs as described. A little bit aggravating to install, but most likely due to the location. It lasted a few years, then the tightening mechanism broke & the lock, although still able to perform, just dragged along the track for another 2 years. I tracked down the manufacturer and he sent me out a brand new identical replacement lock immediately. Took only 2 days. New lock is holding up great (scuse the pun) and works like a charm. This is an excellent quality lock worth purchasing, and the manufacturer/customer service went above & beyond.

Works great!! Easy Install. It solved my issue with the old sliding door I have. These sliding doors in my home are from the 70's and the locking mech. in the handle stopped catching, so the previous owner just placed a closet rod in the track to quote unquote, "secure" the door. I find this method with much more effective until I can afford to replace the sliding doors with French doors or something. Great product though...

Installed this on my sliding glass patio door. It definitely made the door more secure, and the installation wasn't hard at all. However, it isn't easy to get the locking rod out of the locked position...it has to be wiggled a bit and is sort of annoying to do.In all, I'd recommend this if you can't do one of those foot lock type of locks, as my door couldn't accommodate that, so this was really my only choice.

If you have a vinyl sliding door like most people do there is a really good chance you could ruin your door by installing this, also I'm pretty sure after handling the product that any burglar could force there way through this. Also this company is horrible. I did not install the product and returned this 2 days after I bought this and they not only made me pay shipping to ship it back to them but also charged me a 20% restocking fee. They were very rude to me and blamed everything on me when I said it wasn't a good for my door they told me I should be able to make it work and it wasn't there problem. There are so many better door locks out there, do not buy this one and do not buy from this horrible company. I love amazon and this company just made me like it a little less.
