Great cutter
Bought for my son which he uses for work. He says it cuts clean through ceramic tiles and the speed control is a great feature. Works well with a makita 5ah battery. Managing to do 11 square metres of use with lots of cuts before swapping batteries.

Sent back due to nasty noise
It made a sort of crunching noise on starting up and slowing down which didn't give me a lot of confidence, so sent it back. Someone else has posted a video after having the same experience. Also, there's a tiny on off button next to the battery indicator light which didn't seem to do anything. Not sure why it's even there. Shame, because the tool looks solid enough amd it fits my Makita batteries.

Katsu Angle Grinder
Would have given 5* if the batteries for other Katsu tools fitted this one, but they don't as I learnt the hard way.Does exactly what an angle grinder should , only down side is the battery power but this is true of all cordless tools

Strange chewing sound.
Makes an unhealthy chewing sound when it first starts spinning or when stopping, but other than that, it seems to work fine.

Great sturdy tool
What's not to. Like. It takes my makita 18v lxt batteries, I use it mainly for cutting porcelain tiles and chasing walls and it hasn't missed a beat...The perfect tool for me and half the price of the makita it has served me well...Comfortable to use, no issues at all.Highly recommended

UPDATED Broken After Just Over a Year of Very Occasional Use
The media could not be loaded. UPDATED [Original Review Below]I ended up holding onto this grinder, in spite of my original doubts [see below], as I needed a cordless grinder for an urgent job. That was just over a year ago, since when I've maybe used it half a dozen times. Each time for pretty short periods and nothing too onerous.Last time I used it, I found that the switch [unreliable from new] was behaving even more haphazardly than before. I'd turn the grinder on and nothing would happen. So I'd rock the cutting wheel back and forward a bit and try again and then it would usually work —til next time I switched it off again. As, for safety reasons, I removed the battery each time I did this and the job I was doing involved quite a lot of stopping and starting, it soon became an exercise in frustration.Rocking the grinding wheel back and forward, I also noticed that it almost felt like the spindle was slightly jamming, in places which, in combination with the undependable on/off switch, may also have contributed to this "will it? won't it?" performance.I've looked in vain for any contact info or warranty details on Katsu's Amazon page. So it looks like I'll have to disassemble this myself and see if I can fix it... or throw it in the bin. As I said in my original review [below] an angle grinder is a potentially dangerous enough tool at the best of times. Depending on one which turns on randomly or doesn't turn on at all could be a recipe for disaster.OK. It was only cheap. But, with barely half a dozen uses under its belt before it became almost unusable, not such a bargain, after all.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I've just received this a couple of days ago and have only made a few practice cuts on stone & metal. so these are my first impressions --and the reasons I'm sending it back and forking out the extra for the real Makita instead...First of all, the brand itself. I've bought a few Katsu tools over the years and been pretty impressed with the quality vs. price. I was under the impression that Katsu was an actual Chinese tool manufacturer and one of the more reputable of the many no-name Chinese brands out there. So when shopping for reasonably priced tools, I've actually been making a point of choosing Katsu, for this reason. However, I've recently found out that Katsu is just a UK based 'sticker brand' that gets slapped on the same generic Chinese tools that are available under a multitude of other sticker brands. So I'm disappointed by that, as there's no reason to choose Katsu any more, over any other no-name Chinese brand. Now, onto the tool: Build quality feels good. Maybe not up to Makita standards, but there's a good heft to the grinder and, with battery fitted, it's nicely balanced. The metal castings seem to be of a decent quality and, unlike other people, I haven't found the drive on the grinder to be any noisier or rougher than any other grinder I own.One thing I do agree with other reviewers in though [and the reason Im returning this] is the poor quality of the ON/OFF switch. It feels extremely cheap and wobbly and doesn't switch on or off with any kind of reassuring positivity.More alarming though is the fact that I've had the grinder spin up by itself, on a couple of occasions, when the switch was in the 'off' positiion. One time, it was doing this every time I turned the grinder upside down; the grinder would spin up, then stop when I turned it the right way up again. On another occasion, the grinder would spin up whenever I wiggled the battery. Now, on neither of these occasions did the grinder spin up to anything like full speed. It just turned slowly. But it's a bit worrying to think that as potentially dangerous a tool as an angle grinder can spontaneously spin up, even when switched off. And, how do I know it won't do it again, but faster next time? Also, the switch for changing between the 3 speeds the grinder offers is equally uselsss. It's a very tiny push button, covered in a membrane and is almost impossible to press, except with the tip of your fingernail. No chance whatsoever of pressing it while wearing gloves. In fact, I thought it did nothing at first as I struggled to get it to register a press, even when using an un-gloved finger. Also, the speed can only be changed while the grinder is running. So you have the added danger of trying to wrestle with this tiny button , while the grinder is spinning away in your hand.Another, albeit minor, annoyance is that the collet has the locking holes placed at a different distance apart from all my other grinders. I have 3 corded angle grinders and, on all the other ones, the locking holes on the collets are spaced the same, so the collet spanners are interchageable. I just can't fathom why whoever made this one opted to vary from what seems to be a standard. As regards the tool's performance; I just made a couple of test cuts today with a diamond tip cutting disc. It seemed to perform OK. I cut through some sandstone quite effortlessly and some 1,5cm steel bar. The grinder struggled slightly more on the steel bar and did stall a couple of times --it seems to stall easier on the higher speed setting-- but it got there in the end. Endurance wise, I'd say I probably used it for about 15 mins and depleted a 5aH Makita battery from 4-bars to 1-bar. Not a very accurate measure, but gives some idea of how power hungry this is [and I'd imagine all cordless angle grinders are].
