Highly dissatisfied. You will strike out with these.
Well i needed to move up with a few chisels and gouges and with limited space i have to keep my tools to a minimum.Took a gamble on these and lost. The V gouge is the worst I've ever come across. Practically unusable unless you carve at such a steep angle that it makes it unusable. It's like they forgot what they were doing and said the heck with it and tossed it in the kit. It looks like nothing in the pic. I included a pic of my $20 old timer for reference of a straight v gouge.I know demands for these tools are high, but come on and take some pride in your tools.

Disappointed that UJ Ramelson doesn't have any quality control on the products they put out.
Ok carving set, I was disappointed however that the 5/32 gouge had been sharpened offset from the factory making it useless until it can be reground. I expected more from a company like UJ Ramelson, especially when their package has "Quality Workmanship" emblazoned on the package. Unfortunately, without any Quality Control the workmanship doesn't matter when they allow defective pieces leave their premises. I might as well have paid a fraction of the cost of a Chinese import set that I know would have needed to be reground...very disappointed.

This is an excellent set of wood carving tools
This is an excellent set of wood carving tools, however you should allow yourself a couple hours in order toget all of the tools sharpened to a high degree before attempting to use them. The steel is a high qualitysteel and I ended up using a thin piece of rope that I coated heavily with compound to do the inside of the narrowV shaped tool and U shaped tool. If anyone has a better way to get the insides of the tools sharp please feel free to let me know.

Mixed bag for the price.
The set it half-quality made.Normally when you get these types of tools they are either pristine, ready to use out of the box - or unusable completely and need to be prepped for work. This set is somewhere in between. You don’t need to sharpen them out of the box - they have a shiny bevel finish. BUT the corners are uneven - so I would need to regrind and then resharpen anyways. The steel is good, the handles are good. The final finish is not good.However.Given the price of this set I would still probably keep it and refinish the blades. For beginners

Useful for linocut and wood
This is a great set. I like the feel of these in my hand, and they are very easy to control cuts. I can get nice fine detail. Make sure to maintain any of your tools for carving, these or others, with a strop or other sharpening method. These arrived sharp and ready to use.I recommend finding a better storage for these other than the box they came in. Mine end up jumbled often, as I carve and swap tools. I like keeping mine protected and organized when not in use.
