Out of the box, the only real "fix" i needed to make was to adjust the bobbin arm (not the right term, but I don't know it). It had gotten bumped out of alignment in shipping and the needle didn't line up with the bobbing hole. Just needed to loosen some screws, adjust and then tighten back up. After that I had this thing stitching right off the bat. The biggest thing is you will need to get used to adjusting the tension. Once you get the hang of that you're golden. Lots of folks complained about the tripod. I found it to be sturdy (put two legs toward the front, not like the picture). But, the height of it, i found, was inconvenient for most situations, so I made mynown stand out of cut up 2x4. I didn't have to sand anything down. I might do that to the presser foot at some point. It does come very oily, I wiped it down. Really not other mods to run it for me, other than a thread stand. The bobbin winder can be a little finicky, but the bobbins are a weird size, so there's are not a ton of "out of the box" solutions. Once I got the hang of bobbing winding on the machine, not a big deal. So, I know this is a positive review filled with explanations about the quirks of the machine, but I just wanted to be plain about what you get. I love it. Got it running fast. Does what I need it to. Only complaint is that I ordered a silver machine. This was like a failed painting it green so let's call it silver. It looks like they started painting it green and gave up haha. I dont mind, buy FYI. I filed the teeth down a little on mine, but it'll still leave marks sewing through 2 layers of 12 oz.. leather! But sewing through lighter stuff, no problem. I do believe others have had great success with the machine they received. But judging from the photos, they received a different production run than I did. The first clue was the sample... The sample piece that came with the machine had four stitches in it, but was stopped when the thread was wrapped hopelessly around the bobbin, locking it in place. That took some careful work to remove. The body casting on the machine I received was the same as others had noted - totally acceptable at this price-point. But unlike other machines with smooth steel construction on the rocking arms and shuttle bed, this unit had chrome plating on the arms, shuttle bed, bobbin hatch, and wheel. It looked nice at first glance, but was flaking off in several places leaving nasty sharp edges that cut me several times before I took a wire wheel to the area. The welds were super rough, and the bolt holes that held the shuttle bed to the frame were far enough off alignment that the needle constantly scraped against the side of the opening, fraying the thread. The only way to center the needle in the hole was to use only the first of the three bolts, which worked for the first ten stitches, but would eventually work its way back out of alignment and break the thread. This is so frustrating. I spent three day getting "this close" to having it working. But between the misalignment of the shuttle bed bolts and the sharp chrome flakes, I'm calling it quits.
