Update after a few weeks: small, powerful, and far more useful than I expected I bought the Bosch Professional GHO 12V-20 as a compact planer for small correction jobs rather than full-depth planing. Things like cleaning up an edge after a jigsaw or circular saw cut that’s off by a millimetre, easing doors, or fine-tuning joinery without dragging out a full-size planer. At £152 it’s not cheap, so expectations were high. When I first picked it up, I’ll admit I wondered if it would feel underpowered compared to a corded or 18V planer. It’s small, light, and doesn’t look particularly intimidating. After a few weeks of regular use, that concern has gone. Build quality is excellent and has held up well. It feels solid and properly engineered, not like a compromised tool just because it’s on the 12V platform. The base stays flat, the depth adjustment remains accurate, and nothing has loosened or degraded with use. In use, it’s surprisingly powerful for its size, but more importantly it’s very controllable. This planer is happiest taking light passes, and once you understand that, it’s extremely precise. Taking 1 mm passes is easy to repeat, and it’s simple to sneak up on a perfect fit without the risk of removing too much material in one go. This has become my go-to tool for small fixes. Trimming doors, cleaning up edges, or correcting cuts that are slightly off is far quicker and cleaner than trying to fix things with a sander or re-cutting material. It’s also much less intimidating than a full-size planer, especially in a small workshop or shed. Battery choice matters. With a 3Ah battery, runtime has been good for typical correction work. Smaller batteries drain faster than you’d like, which isn’t surprising given the load a planer puts on them. I’d recommend having at least one larger 12V battery if you plan to use this regularly. One thing worth calling out: because it’s more powerful than it looks, it’s worth setting depth on a test piece first. It will remove material quickly if you’re careless. The safety lock is also a bit awkward until you’re used to it, and with such a compact tool you do need to be mindful of finger placement. This is not a replacement for a full-size planer if you’re flattening boards or doing heavy stock removal. But that’s missing the point. This excels at quick, precise jobs where control and convenience matter more than capacity. Overall, after living with it for a few weeks, this is one of those tools you don’t realise how useful it is until it’s in your kit. Expensive for a 12V tool, but if you already use the Bosch Professional 12V system and do a lot of small correction work, the performance and convenience justify it.

Superb product. Innovation and excellence come together. Well done Bosch. If you already have access to the 10.8v/12v Bosch Professional platform and need to make use of a lightweight yet powerful cordlesss planer, then this product is for you. Highly recommend.

Perfect little tool, if you have the other 12v tools this is great addition. I’m a DIYer, and used this for building custom shed and cleaning old wood. Light weight and easy to use.
