I believe most of themail are difective. We bought one, and we had to exchange very soon for a new one, because it stopped working within a couple of days. A new one lasted for several months, and stopped working as well. I suppose they assume you will throw it away once the battery dies? Anyway, with some sewing skill a seam can be ripped open enough to take out the module inside, then the module can be unscrewed (just a single small Phillips screw).
