Scanwood Olive Wood Spoon (Cooking Spoon 14 inch)

Quality, heavy made to last and big enough to work with. MUCH better than those plain spoons sold at mass market stores. Since I use my wooden spoons daily I am rather picky about them. I will have these for years. Thanks for the quality! I would like to add a few personal tips for wooden spoon use. I never use plastic utensils in my hot cooking because they leech plastic and chemicals into my food. I use stainless steel in my metal pans and wooden in my other, such as enamel coated pans, that I do not want scratched. When I boil something I just leave the spoon in the pot and let it boil too. Kills germs and dont need a spoon rest. After cooking, lets say mac and cheese or chili or oatmeal (all sticky foods), I immediately rinse the spoon to keep food from drying on it and sticking. I NEVER soak a wooden spoon or wood handle in water longer than 5 minutes, it splits the wood. I run them thru the dish washer in the silver ware rack and have had no damage because of it. I am almost 50 years old, have always cooked with wooden spoons and have never been made sick from it. So do not believe all the hype about wood soaking up germs. It's how you care and use your wood that matters. The olive wood is a smooth hard wood so I prefer it over the bamboo and I never buy anything that is not bamboo or olive wood. The other spoons can be rough and have splinters. This spoon has a good handle on it and not just a small round dow rod feel to it like cheaper spoons. This spoon will last for years. Worth the money.

I agree with TAP's review. I am not sure they are authentic. Packaging is simple: plastic bag with a barcode with no information on who made it. Otherwise, they look good.I didn't have enough time to judge about sturdiness, durability, and how to clean.

We were very skeptical about these spoons. The description says they were turned wood, but others thought they might have been glued. I can say with confidence ours are 100% one full piece of spoon head and handle, turned from a single block of wood. They are the perfect go to spoon that we use on all of our cookware because they are so gentle.I would say to keep good care of these and have them last you'll want to research how to oil your spoons to keep a protective coating on them, as they can stain if left soft and supple unprotected wood. The only other thing is the spoon head itself isn't terribly large, but it is large enough to pick up pasta and other things. But it is mostly meant for cooking a stirring pots. Which is how I use mine, and they're my go to cooking spoon. They're great at keeping a pot from over-boiling too if you just lay it overtop.

I am a canner, I make a LOT of jam, etc and the set with the 14 inch handled spoon was just the thing I was looking for. In the process I picked up the spatula which is perfect for my prized pans. Each piece is a delight to use and look at, light weight but sturdy and the grain in the wood is lovely. I have used them with berries that are prone to staining and the spoons wash right up and look great again! An excellent product couldn't be happier unless you make an even larger bowl on the spoons!

I love wood, but I have never been fond of wood cooking spoons. My wife is, however. Recently one of her old spoons split in half length wise. It was a light hardwood, perhaps Poplar or Tulipwood, like what ice cream treats are frozen on. After looking, I found she had no more wooden spoons, which she likes to make bread dough with.So, trip to Amazon and a review of spoons, and I picked these. First, they are olive wood. They don't impart flavor. They have a sturdy grain and should take abuse. They are attractive. They clean easily. They can be maintained by rubbing a bit of light-flavored olive oil into them after washing. They are three different lengths for convenience. But I was sure I still wouldn't like them.We have had them for a little while, now, and I do like them. They are quite attractive. They are comfortably light. They clean easily. And I will still occasionally get bread to eat!

I got this wooden spoon because I was looking for a spoon with a longer handle than the other wooden spoons I have that weren't quite long enough to use in my 8qt pot. This spoon is a good size and it is all carved from a single piece of wood. I took off two stars for this product because the handle for this spoon was rough and a bit splintery in several areas. I had to sand it down in order to make it smooth enough to use. It was a bit of a process since seasoning it with oil raised the grain in the areas that were rough and I had to repeat the sanding process and seasoning with oil three times before the handle finally was smooth. The spoon seems nice. If the handle had arrived fully finished and smooth I would have given this spoon five stars, but since it needed a fair amount of work I would caution you to consider whether you want to go through the trouble of sanding the spoon before you can use it. I have other spoons made from teak wood that are much smoother and didn't require me to do anything to them outside of seasoning them with oil before using.

My husband bought these for me. They are beautiful. HOWEVER I rarely purchase items that can not go in the dishwasher. So... I put them in the dishwasher. They are not as beautiful as when they arrived . They do seem well made and despite the now color change, they do what they are intended for. If you are willing to hand wash , I am sure they will stay beautiful.In the photo, the left has not been used. The right one has gone through the dishwasher several times. Just something for you to consider in your decision to purchase.

Not one piece of olive wood - the head is stuck on the end of the stick which will be a week point in the future and don’t look great.

Spoon is really beautiful, good quality with soft texture, rich wooden ornament. I have using it with great pleasure. Very well done. I love it!
