The shelves are adjustable in that you can remove an entire shelf to get twice the height, but there are no extra holes in between to make smaller adjustments in shelf height. The doors are held in place with surprisingly shallow thingies, and it does help having a 2nd person hold the doors up when you put the final piece down. And yes, this piece is a walnut-veneer particle board construction, which you expect from the price point.
