AMAZING
I don't know what the bad reviews are based on, but this card rocks! I've played about 3 hours of DOOM tonight with ultra settings at 3160p and have averaged 35-40 fps. Afterburner shows the temp never getting above 80c, and the fan maxed at 75%. This is the 4GB version. PROS: * Plays games at 4k when most say it won't. * For less intensive games the fan doesn't even need to be on. * Quality construction, doesn't feel flimsy at all. * Worked out of the box. Plugged it in, updated my drivers all was good. * Doom with Vulkan API is blazing fast. * Every game I have installed looks incredible at 4k. * At 1080p I see fps from 70+ easy. CONS: * Fan is a little noisy (I have my PC in the family room and although they noted it was a little loud, it didn't bother anyone). I can't say enough how impressed I am. I had all kinds of worries prior to receiving it due to some bad reviews. I was very worried about the temperature, and noise. Some reviews said it crashed there machines. I've seen none of that. I don't know if this is an issue with overclocking but I see no reason to mess with that, it is incredible as it is. For reference here are my specs: Gateway DX4870 i5-3330 16GB ram Corsair VS500 PSU LG 4k Monitor

Arrived quickly in great packaging. Replaced my old Phenom 960T with an FX8350 and my Sapphire 6870 with the RX 480 Armor 8GB on an Asus M5A97 board with 8GB of Kingston Ram (2x4) @1333mhz. With just the card alone and my old processor, I was running Overwatch on Ultra and maintaining about 70FPS (the CPU is a SEVERE bottleneck to this card). Could play BF1 with the old CPU and the new card on medium settings on single player. Multiplayer was pretty bad (around 35FPS). New CPU and this card delivers 100+ FPS on Epic settings on Overwatch (capped at 100FPS) And I'm running BF1 in Ultra @1080p during multiplayer at a solid 60-70FPS. This is with no overclocking on the CPU or the Card as I'm still in that "breaking it in phase" so to speak (as in my jaw is hanging open now that I have a more modern system and can enjoy newer titles). I'm sure with some slight tweaking to the card and CPU clock speeds, there is potential for some good 4K gaming, but I don't even have a 4K TV/Monitor yet so there is no point at this time. So far everything runs flawlessly. Incredible card, and can breath life into an aging system. I removed the old drivers, plugged in the new card, installed drivers, reset computer, done. Couldn't have been simpler.

Love the card
Love the card. Make sure PSU is efficient, had some power draw issues initially. Good performance for price. Looks amazing. Only dragon logo is RGB, the LED for the other half is red only...You can shut it off if red doesn't work for you, but shroud is also red...So really red needs to work with your theme.

Updating to 5 star now. VERY excited. I’ll keep you posted!
I just bought this MSI RX480 4GB GX, installed on my 3 yrs old PC. Its not being detected by my PC. But its causing my PC to freeze and crash at startup regardless of any bios settings. My system config: ASRock FM2A88X-FM2+ motherboard AMD A4-6300 3.7GHz APU G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB 1866MHz RAM Corsair cx430 PSU Cooler Master Seidon 120V CPU Cooler Corsair Carbide Case 120GB SSD 4TB+4TB+5TB+8TB WD HDDs OS: Windows 8.1 As you can see I have AMD APU, so I already had AMD Catalyst Center installed on my computer. I was hoping it would detect the GPU. It did not, and then I downloaded and installed the latest driver from AMD website anyways and installed it. I reboot, no sign of new graphics card. And it froze. I restarted and kept getting stuck at startup. Most of the time, my pc seems to be on but no video signal on either graphics card. So I decided to reboot and change bios settings. I disabled onboard gpu. Still no luck. PS: Yes, I have connected 6+2 pin connector to the GPU. GPU lights and fans are on. IS THIS DOA? ANY ADVICE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I'LL KEEP MY REVIEW UPDATED. --- UPDATE 1/20/2017 --- ** updating from 1 star to 5 start ** I have Corsair CX430 PSU - which in theory should support an external GPU upgrade easily. But my mistake was, I did not take PSU ‘power loss’ or ‘system loss’ into account. 80+ bronze PSU means it's guaranteed to have at least 80% of efficiency. Means about 15~20% power loss. Over the course of 2 years, I won't be surprise if it comes down to 25% loss. Means, (roughly) 430W - 25% = 322W :( Not enough for my RX480 ;) Also, stock AMD RX480, the original version is rated at 150W (which, according to a some experts, is a lie; it takes about 160W~170W) And this factory overclocked version with 2 huge fans should require quite a bit more than 150W. Cooler Master PSU calculator fooled me! So, it’s safe to say, even if this graphics card was DOA, or having some incompatibility issue with other components, I still need to upgrade my PSU if I want to use a RX 480 So I went ahead and ordered an EVGA BQ750 from Amazon. Best deal ($70) available around the web. Thanks to prime, it arrived next day! BQ series is probably entry level PSU, but being 80+ bronze certified, it should have at least 600W load capacity. And manufacturer is giving 5yrs warranty, so why not? By the name of Allah, i started to replace my PSU with this new one. Connected everything but the RX480 card, powered up the PC - its working fine. Over clocked as desired, its still working fine. Once confirmed that the PC is stable, I turned it off and installed the GPU. Powered it up and I see windows logo - loading! What a relief! Installed the latest driver from AMD and disabled onboard GPU. So far so good. Upgrading the CPU next ;)

Very good card for the money
Very good card for the money. Replace an ASUS 280 DCU .....Ist a bit shorter than the asus, and a lot quiter!!!! The LED lights its a welcome gift, but not a big deal for me, given my CPU ist under the desk. With an old PHENOM 1090T @ 4 GHZ I can play BTF 1 in ULTRA with 60 plus FPS....DOOM ULTRA with everithing maxed out always above 70 FPS .........I leave de fan in auto and you cant not hear them .....If you want you can create a profile and the temps are ander 60 even with extrme gameplay..... So, ...no problems with the instalation........I never use the disks.....we are in the internet age.....so download it !!!!!! Delivery was faster than anounced...... I had a hard time to choose the RX 480 over the GTX 1060.......... I thing in the games to come ( DX12) it will be a better choice......Only time will tell......

I would hesitate recommending it!!!! (UPDATED)
I still would hesitate on buying this particular card. It took 3 RMA's to get a good one!! So I put up with the crashing almost constantly. Then I finally got them to get me a good one that actually works! So given that now, about 3 months since getting the good one I now have a stable computer. I wasn't the drivers as I thought, it was a problem with the card. They released a bad bunch as I wasn't the only one with the problems. But at the end they did get it right. Customer service on this card is fair at best. I wrote them complaining and all they did was send me a RMA. No other communication at all! They never said what was wrong with the card. So 3 replacements later, still never got anything from them other than send it in and receiving it back. It would have been nice to hear as to what the problem was. They didn't even ask if my system was capable of running the card, nor did they ask about drivers, actually never asked ANYTHING. So their customer service is pretty quite. But in the end they did come through. So I upped the stars by one to 3 total. I couldn't give it anymore just because of the serious hassle I had to go through with them. Bottom line is it's a good card IF you get a good one but good luck with that. Personal observation: They have just released the next version of this card the RX490. This happened pretty quick after the release of the 480 line. So I will guess that the 490 line is basically to replace the not so great 480 line of graphic cards. Just my 2 cents!

Fantastic old warrior
For me previous gen high(mid) end hardware is the way to go and I'm loving this card almost 3 years later, no complaint, completely worth the $100 I paid. I had one heart-stopping moment when I thought I had fried the card after yanking it out and ripping out a piece of the MB, during a heatsink cooler and memory upgrade. After 30 minutes of reseating the memory and the card, I realised part of the problem was that I hadn't connected the PCIE power :)

It can currently play anything on Ultra 1080p settings. (Consider CPU for some titles)
Its time to review!!!!!!!!! YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! Simply put, this is a great card. I don;t have to worry about any game being released through this generation. I initially went with the Rx460 and that did not make me too excited. I play The Division which is a very demanding title. The recommended requirements are quite high hence the RX460 could not offer me the graphics quality for the money. Somehow this RX480 was selling for about the same price as the RX470 (which is quite similar in performance). I play anything on Ultra Settings. If I had a 1440 monitor, I'm confident this would play on that setting as well. It is a powerful graphics card. I have no complaints at the moment after giving it some serious use. Now, if you want to hear some serious commentary, performance reviews for GPU's and extensive testing. Go on YouTube and find Hardware Unboxed. They take a GPU and compare it against 12 - 25 games. That's a lot. You can get more info there. Anything I say here may not be half as helpful as that resource. I would definitely recommend this GPU for anyone looking to buy one at this rice range.

Great GPU for 1080p gaming.
This is an AMAZING GPU. I bought it on sale for Christmas, at an UNBEATABLE price. Originally I wanted to buy the 8gb version of this card.....however after much research and consideration, and the $$$$120+ savings at the time of purchase VS the 8gb version I opted to buy this one. So far I love it, I have benchmarked it a lot, and it performs like a true champ....some room for Overclocking further, but the OC mode available with MSI Afterburner is plenty fast for 1080p Gaming. I am playing the Witcher 3, Hairworks off and most other settings maxed out...I am getting average FPS over 50.....I have seen it dip down to 43, but that's rare....and the card is not set up on the aggressive profile....I believe it's on silent in fact....so there is room to push it even more.....I am confident it will work with any of the new games to come for at least 2 years, and it's VR ready.

MSI 480 4GB
