I grow tomatoes and berries and make sauces so I wanted something to sieve out the pips and skin. This does do this but it’s quite hard work as the mill has a habit of falling apart. It’s also quite bulky and difficult to store. It does make really smooth mashed potatoes though, and requires much less work than the tomatoes!

The Kitchen Craft MCFOODMILL is a bigger and more durable stainless steel version of the vintage enamelled French-made mill my mother used half a century ago.This Kitchen Craft version is dishwasher safe, and in the last month it has passed all the tests our family has thrown at it, including an inadvertent drop off the draining board on to a hard floor where it simply bounced off without a bend or a mark.The cross-bar is infinitely more secure and ergonomic during the milling than the flexible wire bridges found on cheaper modern imitations. Once one has found the knack it is easy to fit it in place and remove.The vintage original featured three evenly spaced legs which fitted loosely on several rim sizes up to 22cm. This KC version is much bigger than the old one, and it is a tight squeeze in a slightly contoured pan with a 24cm rim, as seen in my photo.
