One of best around - but not as good as the previous edition
It's one of the better books out there for those of us who like to do medical tourism. I relied heavily on the previous edition of this book in 2011 when I went to Costa Rica to have about $20K in dental work done (vs. $90K in US) and it was a wonderful experience. The book was helpful in that it gave me an estimate of prices per procedure, which I validated with estimates from dentists there. We had a tentative plan of treatment, based on x-rays etc that I had sent, and everything went great. Now I'm planning a different type of treatment and am turning to this updated edition. I don't find it to be quite as good because it gives "savings estimates" instead of local prices. This requires me to know what US prices are before I can plan on what it will be elsewhere. Other than that, this is still one of the best resources around that I've found.

Good alternative for out-of-control medical costs in USA
A little dated but excellent advise and a very good starting point to find more affordable care overseas. They give a good rule of thumb - don't bother looking unless you're going to spend over $6,000 in the USA - not worth it otherwise (at least not in terms of savings). Still might want to do it if you want to vacation somewhere and get some medical work done at the same time.

An excellent addressing of the many of those whatabout questions
Great introduction into the world of Medical Tourism. Takes much of the mystic out of this $400B industry as it now becomes a maturing, highly credible and cost-saving alternative to the US health system that ranks 37th in the world (by WHO). Competition is a good thing......
