GRAIN GROWTH
While this not a bad product, if you're buying these for any kind of knife making please do normalization cycles! You will regret it if you do not! It's annealed but the grain growth is so bad I can't grind it away on one of the knives I made with this steel. The other I did 3 normalization cycles and it seemed to work pretty well. (Semi-explaination of "Normalization Cycle" - Heat up the steel to critical temp and let cool down almost to room temperature. Repeat at least 3x. Also, do NOT leave steel in forge past critical temp you will be working in reverse, because it can cause the grain to go right back to a larger sugar looking grain pattern, which is NOT what you want to make a knife!)

Great steel for knives
I have bought quite a few of these packs of steel from the 1/8" to 3/16" thickness. The barstock comes well wrapped and ready for grinding to profile. Every piece has been easily heat treated with no cracking or warping. Would definitely recommend for the beginner knife maker or seasoned pro.

Fast shipping, all product present, annealed
As advertised, five bars of 12x1.5x0.125 1095 stainless steel. Metal seems to be annealed, making it easy to cut to shape for stock removal. Metal came from the distributor with no bends or warps. Will definitely purchase again. As far as value, you cannot beat $5 per foot for this particular metal.

Good for more than just knives.
5 pieces delivered. All in good order.. First project, a 3/16 cutter for a vintage Stanley 45 combination plane. Roughed out with hacksaw. Finished size with mill file. Hollow ground. Oil hardened it. Tempered in toaster oven. Couldn't be happier. Sharpens beautifully. Buying the original cutter, 3/16 x 3.5" costs as much as these 5 pieces. Great value.
