Good fit and quality

The fit on these shorts is interesting and may take some time for me to get used to. Beneath the 'main' shorts are a pair of compression shorts. I typically wear a medium to large in shorts and the compression shorts on the large felt a little snug, even for compression shorts. I don't have the biggest legs (I weigh 82kg and am 5'10 for reference). Conversely, the shorts that sit above the compression shorts, the main shorts I guess you could say, are very loose fitting. This may have something to do with the fact that New Balance call them 'mid rise', which means they sit below the waist, rather than on it. The issue I had with this is that when I was running I definitely felt they were sitting a bit low and I found myself wanting to pull them up from time to time. Realistically, they probably aren't ever going to fall down because of the compression shorts beneath them hug your legs so tightly and a drawstring can be done up at the waist. The advantage of all this is that you do feel very mobile and free when wearing them. I found I was able to do all kinds of movements from jumps to squats in addition to running, cycling, etc without any issues at all. As I say, I think they'll just take some getting used to - I don't think I'd size down because although the waist may sit better, the legs would probably end up too tight.The length of 7 inches is quite long for running shorts, but as the 'main' shorts are so loose, I never felt them restricting my movement anymore than 5 inch shorts (or less) would.The shorts themselves are made of fast-drying materials that mean when you're sweating whilst running or sat on a bike, your shots are going to pull moisture away from your body and dry quickly; especially in warmer weather . The materials are also very soft against the skin and breathable. I found that after 10-15 minutes of finishing my run the shorts were much, much drier than when I'd just finished and so I wasn't suffering with that post-run chill that I often get as I cool down and the wind hits my wet/damp clothing.The design is nice. As is typical with New Balance gear, you get a very plain black short with a small NB logo. It'll suit almost any top and shoe combination as a result and can be worn by pretty much anyone - young or old, someone who cares about branding or someone who really doesn't.Overall, these are a good pair of shorts. I think it'll take some time to get used to the fit, but I certainly found them comfortable, quick drying and good looking.

The shorts aren’t comfortable and don't sit well on the hips. They keep sliding off despite the size being correct - the inner short is fairly small

Just comfortable & usable

The shorts appear to be good quality, are nice and light, but I have only been using them for a month so we will have to see how long they last.

These running shorts are double layered. The inner layer of fabric is snug and close fitting (think cycling shorts or the like). The outer layer is quite lightweight but equally not overly fitted. This gives a slightly strange feel in that they look quite loose bit feel quite snug. Great to wear and very good as far as washing is concerned. I guess these might just be a little small for size - I would have expected the L to be a little looser. The good news is that there is a tie string on the waist if you do get a slight larger size.I think my only reservation would be the pockets. They are a good size but have no sort of closure on them. If you are running this might leave anything in the pockets vulnerable I guess.

The shorts feel great but they continuously fall down at the back. No chance running in them without showing everyone your ‘back’
