Review: Delicious! - This is an excellent product. I usually make my own pesto, but tried this when I didn't have enough basil from my garden. It tastes great. Since I live in the north east and cannot grow basil outside all year, I now have a perfect alternative. You will love it. Try it. Review: Damaged and Leaking - Not Returnable - Great pesto! Simple but quality and correct ingredients. However it came damaged evem wrapped in bubble wrap in the box. Pesto leaking out of cracked jar!!! (Unable to return) and cannot figure out how to request a refund. A hassle. And this pesto is hard to find in grocery stores where I live so I thought desertcart would work out better. Disappointed.

texture change
I am very disappointed in the texture of the pesto this time. it is not as smooth as it was the last times i purchased it. I would really like a replacement jar, to see if quality will be consistant or i will not be buying this item again. thank you for looking into this issue. Lisa

Great product messy delivery
This pesto is so fabulous! First order was great. Second order all 4 jars had leaked olive oil. Thankfully the product was well wrapped.

TWO SERIOUS PROBLEMS FOUND WITH PRODUCT: Vendor shipped a too-small bottle, and the bottle was not sealed.
[Updated as of June 19, 2018 @10:30 AM Eastern US time] SERIOUS PROBLEMS! I have found several serious problems with this product, which I will attempt to describe briefly below, and, as my time permits, I will add more details to this review in a later update/revision. Please note when reading the second item below that I am a scientist with a graduate degree (Master's degree) in the health sciences, and that I have worked for many years as a scientific researcher and consultant, including as a consultant to producers on matters of shelf life and safety of foods and nutritional supplements; this should show that I have significant experience in the realms of food safety. The problems that I noted with this product were as follows: 1) The product page clearly states, in both the product title and in the product description section, that the jar contains 6.35 ounces (180 grams) of pesto. However, the jar of pesto that the vendor shipped to me was a jar that was clearly too small to hold 6.3 ounces, and the label on the jar clearly stated that it contained 130 grams, which is 4.6 ounces. So, in effect, the vendor defrauded me to the tune of almost two ounces of (missing) pesto! BTW, I noticed the bottle size discrepancy only after having opened the jar of product from this vendor, and thus I was not able to return it to the Amazon vendor, using the Amazon return process, as unacceptable (meaning that the vendor did not ship what I had ordered). 2) This second potential problem that I will describe is of a far more serious nature than the first, because it concerns a matter of food safety. Under US FDA food safety regulations, all low-acid foods such as pesto which have a pH higher than 4.6 must be processed at a sufficiently high level of heating (usually at least 121 degrees C) during the bottling/canning process, and the bottle (or can) must then be sealed. When the product is packed in a jar, the partial vacuum formed in the airspace above the product in the jar by the heating process and subsequent cooling results in a vacuum seal, which not only causes the lid of the jar to dimple inward, but the pressure differential formed by the vacuum also means that it should take a bit of effort to open the jar. I am sure that all of my readers are familiar with the effort required to open a jar of tomato sauce, pasta sauce, or other bottled product that has been heat-processed for safety reasons. In the case of the 4.6 oz. jar of Pesto Alla Genovese By La Favorita product that I received from this vendor (and this was also true of an identical jar of the same product (again, in 4.6 oz. size) received from another Amazon vendor on the same day), the paper strip/tab seal -- which reads GUARANTEE SEAL (I assume that the seal, along with the words GUARANTEE SEAL, are meant to reassure the purchaser that the jar is still sealed and that the product has not been tampered with) -- that runs from the jar cap to the body of the jar was intact. Further, I noticed, with both jars of this product, that the caps/lids were not at all dimpled inward as would be expected, as the dimpling would indicate the presence of a partial vacuum in the jar in the airspace above the product. When I attempted to open the jar (for each jar, I first sliced the paper/tab seal with a knife before attempting to open the jar), I found that the cap loosened easily with only a tiny amount of finger pressure, that is, it turned with almost no resistance (which is entirely unexpected for such a heat-processed product), and. as the cap turned, there was a total absence of the normal popping or snapping sound indicating that a vacuum seal had been broken. In other words, my experience in opening the jar of product from this vendor, and in opening an identical jar of the same product purchased from another Amazon at the same time, indicated to me that none of the signs that indicate a vacuum seal of the jar due to proper heat-processing during bottle were present. This matter is of great concern to me, and I am hoping that the US-based Amazon vendor/ reseller of this product will be willing and able to respond to my review in the Comments section, where they can tell me the following: -- whether the European producer of this product does indeed subject each jar to the required heat processing during the bottling of the product. -- why there was no inward dimpling of the lid/cap of the unopened jar to indicate the presence of a vacuum inside the jar. -- why I was able to turn the lid, in order to open it, so easily, with almost zero effort, unlike my experience with other heat-processed bottled products. -- why there was no popping or snapping sound detected when I opened the lid, unlike my experience with other heat-processed bottled products. (end of list) This evidence, outlined in item #2 above, that the product may not have been properly heat-treated during bottling is of great concern to me, because any low-acid (such as pesto) bottled or canned product that has not been properly heat-treated during bottling can possibly, over time, allow the growth of the undesirable microbes that create botulinum toxins, which can cause botulism if the product is ingested. Now, the reality is that food poisoning from botulism from bottled and canned products is quite rare in the US, but it is true that there have been several cases over the past 15 years of botulism poisoning of consumers from pesto that was marketed in jars (there are at least two cases in the US, and at least four in Italy; you can find reports on them via a Google search). I tried to contact the manufacturer/producer of the product, La Favorita, in Europe via the contact information on their website (website URL appears on the jar label): by sending an email to their email address as shown on the website Contact page, and in the email I mentioned the problems noted above, and asked them to respond to me with an email reply that clearly addressed each of the four bulleted issues that I listed above. I sent the email on June 18, 2018, at at 11:50 AM, and so far, as of a point in time which is almost 24 hours later, they have not responded to my email in any fashion. And, neither the producer nor the vendor have yet replied to my concerns via the Comments section below this review. I do want to also note that while neither jar displayed any inward dimpling of the cap, there was no evidence of bulging or swelling of either cap, which, if present, would have indicated that undesirable microbial growth had occurred in the jar, and I want to also note that the product in each jar, once opened, looked very good and smelled very good, with no hint of the presence of any undesirable odors that might indicate food spoilage. I will also add that even though neither jar showed any of the normally-expected signs of having been properly heat-processed and sealed, I decided, after having closely inspected the contents of each jar by visual and olfactory means, to go ahead and eat a small amount of the product from each jar (in each case, I ate the pesto as a sauce on a very small bowl of pasta). Now, I doubt that most ordinary vigilant consumers, if they had noticed the deficiencies which I had noted (as mentioned above), would have gone ahead and eaten some of the product, but I am a scientist, and as such, I have a certain amount of a perhaps-arrogant and perhaps-undeserved belief that if the product in either jar had spoiled, I would have been able to detect it. BTW, I ate these "sample servings" about 48 hours ago (as of this update), and I can tell you with certainty that I have not developed any signs or symptoms of illness, and, in fact, I still feel great! Finally, in closing, I will note that if I were to rate this product solely on flavor/taste, I would give it 4 stars. However, for the overall star rating for this product, I had no choice but to give this product one star due to the two issues noted above. BTW, if you are wondering why I ordered jars (one each) of this product from two different vendors on Amazon on the same day, it was because the product listings, including the product name in the product listing title, were sufficiently different across the listings to cause me to assume that they were two different products. Further, one product was listed as being a 4.6 oz. (130 grams) bottle, and the other was listed as being a 6.4 ounce (180 grams) bottle. Worse, one product listing had an illustration/photo that did not allow a magnified view of the jar and its label; if such magnification had been available, I might have noticed that the two jars and their labels were essentially identical.

Pretty Good
This is the best tasting & authentic Basil Pesto Sauce you can buy pre-made retail. It has all the correct ingredients except for adding in those cashews. Supposed to be Pine nuts only. It is very thick so I dilute it some with Lucini Premium Select Extra Virgin Olive oil, since you pay top dollar for such a small quantity. However, this product still cannot compare to fresh home made Basil Pesto though which takes a long time to make. Rumor has it that the Godfather Don Corleone preferred this brand of Pesto to all others!

Delicious and dairy free
Love this pesto sauce. Itโs hard to find a good dairy free one and this is it. But itโs expensive
