Are the shanks of the smaller bits part of them? I mean just one piece shank and bit. Or, are the shanks another piece just welded to the bits?

Thank you for your question. The bits in the BL9IM are all made out of a single piece of stock material, the shanks are not welded on, even the small size. If you have further questions please feel free to contact our Bosch Customer Service Representatives at 1-877-BOSCH-99 (1-877-267-2499)

"wb halper" review mentions "phillips chuck." wth is a phillips chuck? do they mean jacobs chuck? and why is this impact-driver rated?

Yes it's a Jacob's chuck and the impact rating is due to the fact they fit in an impact, and not just a drill/screw gun

How does this compare to the titanium version?

Hi! The Black Oxide Impact Tough Drill Bits have long flutes for excellent speed. These bits are built for general-purpose applications and work great in wood, plastic and light-gauge metal materials while the Titanium drill bits have impact-rated shanks. The tough construction of the bits are rated for heavy-gauge carbon steels, as well as light gauge metal and hardwood applications. For further assistance, contact us at 1-877-BOSCH99 (1-877-267-2499) from Mon-Fri 7A-7P CST.

Will the hex section stick in a magnetic reciever?

The BL9IM bits will fit into tools/receivers which accept 1/4" hex shank accessories with power groove. For further assistance, contact us at 1-877-BOSCH99 (1-877-267-2499) from Mon-Fri 7A-7P CST.
