A beautiful written and illustrated book with a heart and a social conscience.
"Escape" weaves true stories about people from other parts of the world who, against odds, escaped tyranny in their own countries by whatever means possible, to travel to places where they could be safe and free. This is a serious book which teaches children that not everyone is as lucky as we are. Many people live in countries where they cannot protect their families from poverty, starvation or violence. The determination with which the men and women and children in these stories find ways to escape their old lives and find new ones is inspiring, and I can imagine young readers will be captivated by the dangers they overcame to travel to freedom.

Eye-opening and educational
A very unique book: an illustrated collection of vignettes about real people from around the world who escaped persecution and repression. It provides a springboard to discuss with youth the challenges faced by groups both historical and current, and encourage empathy, geographic awareness and a sense of collective humanity. A great gift that will leave the reader with a broader perspective.

Poignant and beautifully illustrated stories of survival
This is a wonderful book that has inspired our entire family to learn more about the stories of courage and resilience that led many of these refugees to other lands and to ultimately thrive in their lives. The illustrations are stunning and the stories brief, but poignant.

Incredible stories of bravery and perseverance that will inspire readers.
Incredible stories of bravery and perseverance that will inspire readers. Some people undertook arduous physical journeys, some faced risk and uncertainty in escape, some had to build a new life in a new culture, and some risked their own well-being to help others. This book gives readers perspective on difficult situations that people have had to endure in the modern world and recent history, but the vignettes provide a hopeful message that humans are capable of overcoming adversity. The picture book style may suggest that the book is for younger kids, but the stories would be very impactful for older grade school and middle school kids.

Inspirational!
These stories inspire hope. They are told in a way that focuses on the positives without glossing over the tough realities of each subject's situation. And the illustrations are vibrant and delightful. A much needed book for children and young adults right now!

Thoughtful and thought-provoking
My 10 year old son and I have been digging into "Escape" the last few weeks, and it's prompted deep and thoughtful conversations around the topics of personal freedom, human dignity, and the individual pursuit of a better life. Just enough detail to provide context and historical facts, but non-political. Profiling individual stories from around the world makes the subjects relatable, invites the more curious-minded to ask more questions, and expands the point of view of the reader to a global scale. An important book for those seeking to raise informed, empathetic children and young adults.
