It is useful but the metal is a bit aggressive for my shoes.
It is convenient to have three strengths of bristles on one small brush. It was great to have on a long camping trip. Cleaning shoes before getting into the tent helps keep the tent cleaner and the shoes warmer than if left out of the tent. The metal bristles are a bit too stiff for anything but the bottom of boots where the treads collect stones. For me a cheap finger nail tool does a faster job without scratching up the boot bottom. For others it may be better to use the metal brush; it will always be attached.
