Each light is individually packaged in a light safe, easy tear package. We did crack one to make sure it worked when we lost power for a couple hours one night. Figured it was the perfect time to test and see how bright they are. In an enclosed bedroom, 10x10, it lit up the whole room with ease. We then tried it in our open concept living room and it lit up a good area, but not as well as the enclosed room (for obvious reasons). However, was still plenty bright to navigate and even read under. I’ll still choose emergency lanterns when I can, but these work exactly as intended and for the value, was a perfect add as we head into storm season.
