I've always believed in the "For Dummies" books. I learned Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 from the "For Dummies" books. These books help you understand basic accounting - you should be able to navigate a Profit and Loss Statement (Income Statement) or a Balance Sheet after reading these. I've used these books 3 times to teach people to pass a basic accounting test for job placement.

The presentation of material is easy to follow and very helpful for those new to accounting or those wanting a practical review.

This is a great book if you need to brush up on your accounting skills.

The book bills itself as being "for dummies" and the sample/introductory chapter makes it seem like the audience is for those that don't understand much about accounting. However, the book very quickly gets into the weeds without much explanation of the financial terms being thrown around, and doesn't do much to guide you through it. It feels much more like a CPA explaining each of the concepts to another CPA that's already mostly familiar with the subject matter, rather than actually trying to take someone who is brand new to accounting through the paces. I would not recommend this to someone who does not have some cursory accounting experience, but it might be useful to a student taking introductory coursework in accounting.
