A book full of memories for older folks.
I bought this book because I thought it would bring back many memories of my youth. We didn't get TV until 1947, but from then well into the 50s and early 60s I think some of the best ever entertainment took place on the tube. The book mentions Milton Berle and the Texaco Star Theater and The Show of Shows. Later Jackie Gleason and The Honeymooners were ranked #1. Growing up in Indiana we watched these shows along with the Ed Sullivan show. Reading about some of the acts and the jokes told brought back great memories for me. I got the biggest laugh I have had out of book in a long time when I read about Jackie's friend Milton Berle. Berle said he was working a nightclub and got paid a decent salary and free food. He said, "The food was so bad the rats went next door to eat." If you like this kind of nostalgia then you will like this book. I was disappointed in that the book does not tell the story about the end of life for Jackie. I would like to have learned about his estate and what happened to his wives and daughters. All in all this is one of the more enjoyable books I have read in a long time. Enjoy.Dr. Norman Jones, author of Growing Up in Indiana: The Culture & Hoosier Hysteria Revisited.

Interesting
Grew up watching the honeymooners and other variety shows with Jackie Gleason so when I happened to see an old episode of Jonny Carson with him as a guest , plugging his book, I got on amazon and ordered it. Great read, very entertaining and gave me an insight on the actor I never knew before. Worth the read!
