This lamp had big shoes to fill... and did it
We bought a piano in September, and wanted a light we could use without turning on half a basement full of overheads. Maybe it's because I *still*have the piano lamp I used when I was growing up (which I love and still use as a desk light in my library), or maybe it was the goose neck that gave me pause, but honestly I wondered how sturdy/heavy this lamp would be. Already having a light I love, I also wondered about the amount/adjustability of the light. There were other lamps I actually preferred the look of a bit more, but the look came with an (often hefty) cost, *and,* for whatever reason, all those lights came with inline power switches. And I HATE chasing down the power switches on lighting cords. Truthfully, I had some reservations about this lamp, but we needed another piano lamp, so I took a leap of faith. Happily, it paid off!Lamp arrived in beautiful shape, and was actually quite heavy to lift out of the box - certainly heavier than the one I've had for forever! Once I had it plugged in, I played with the head and neck of the lamp just because I could, and I was pleased at how adaptable it is. The shade moves as well as the neck, so light can be directed right where you need it. Placed in the center of our lovely new glossy black upright, the gooseneck doesn't "cheapen" the space at all; on the contrary it's what a piano lamp should be: it's attractive and unobtrusive, and it looks like it's always been there. And of course the most important thing, it is functional. In it casts a perfect light right where it's needed and it does not move. I've turned out every light in the basement and played with this light alone without issue. Best of all, the power switch is handily located on the side of the lamp within easy reach, so I or my young daughter can turn it on or off without a second's thought. In all, this is the lamp that fit the bill in every way. Compared to the other lamps I looked at, it has everything I wanted - a nice, solid build/weight, both functional and flexible, and pleasing aesthetics - at a fairly reasonable price. I'm looking forward to this being my daughter's piano lamp, that she will have for many years!

In theory a perfect lamp for me
In theory a perfect lamp for me. House of Troy claimed to be american made, ultimatley that just means designed in the US. I was weary of the lamp the moment I saw Made in China sticker on the box. I have an on going theory with my spouse that China is making stuff to only fill up our landfills. This lamp helped the theory. When I opened the box It looked pretty good, nice paint job, but when I put it on a flat surface the lamped wobbled forward to a degree of face planting forward. It turned out the base of the lamp was warped and had a large bulge underneath the felt covering. How did they not catch this. I tried to return the lamp but the seller did not want it back but still credited my credit card... weird. I was instructed to throw it in the trash "dispose of it" . I find it oddly depressing that the lamp made a LONG LONG journey only to be thrown away because it was too cheaply made to throw good money after bad and fix it. So weird. Maybe amazon should have a "Made in USA" store where everything is made here in the US. yes.? no? oh, whatever... I have to go shop for a lamp now...

Looks Great but has Minor Issues
The light looks nice, appears to be well built. It looks great on my antique upright grand piano. ( I wanted a light that would not stand out.) The bulb that came with the lamp did not put out enough light, so I had to replace it with a higher wattage incadecent bulb which works great. I've had the lamp for 4 days and just noticed that the fabric that covers the bottom of the base is coming off. The glue used didn't hold. Also the lamp is slightly lifting up off of the piano slightly because of the angle I need to have the light at so that the music is illuminated. The lamp looks great, but I don't think I'd buy it again since I'm going to have to fix the fabric on the base after just 4 days.

I like the look of it and the switch on the top is a definite plus. My only slight complaint is that the stem leading from the base could be longer. If I have a tall music book on the stand the lamp shade gets in the way. This has been solved easily by sitting the lamp on a book behind the stand which is quite invisible and works well.

A piece of junk
I don’t often write reviews but $150 for a piano lamp that I thought should be excellent quality (House of Troy) but brand new right out of the box the bottom was falling off and as a result was very wobbly. Wow-where is the quality control!?

Happy with Piano lamp
Really filled the bill for a piano lamp. I like the amount of light, direction of light, cord is long enough, easy switch . . . worked out well and not too expensive.

House of Troy gooseneck piano lamp
This was a gift to my Mom for her 91st birthday. She loves to practice her piano but it was getting difficult to read the sheet music, as her eyesight is not as good as it used to be. This is the perfect lamp- she was thrilled by the looks and the fact that it can be adjusted to highlight the music. She is back up to at least 30 minutes practice a day!

Gooseneck Portable Lamp
House of Troy sent the lamp within three days, my only dismay is that they did not include the actual bulb that is needed; I am at fault there as I didn't read regarding that matter. The lamp itself sits beautifully on my piano, and certainly fills all my expectations. I would recommend it highly.
