Very strong manets/weather proof aluminum
Very strong magnets... I use this for a handheld headlight as a secondary for night mountain biking, and I keep it attached to a backpack shoulder strap so I can reach for it and just pull it away from it's attached magnet and see anyting around me since my stationary headlight on my handlebars only points forward, works very well, all I have to do to reattach it does have the magnets near one another and they will quickly reattach my light to the strap without having to look so I can keep my eyes on the path, and I'm quite sure it's all aluminum other than the magnets themselves so it is weatherproof & rustproof. I also am a very capable mountain biker executing jumps and dropping off Ledges and this has never detached due to inertia, and the headlight I have attached to it is heavier than your average flashlight.

A Net Leash that WORKS!
I have been searching for the perfect net leash for months - I've tried probably five different styles and brands, but nothing has worked. My partner got me this magnetic release for my birthday and it is EXACTLY what I was looking for but couldn't find until now. I haven't used it on the water yet, but from some in-home testing it's obvious that it will keep my net out of the way when I don't need it but easily accessible when I do. The magnet is strong, the leash is plenty long, and the carabineer makes clipping, un-clipping, and re-clipping to any part of my pack super easy. Simple but satisfyingly effective. On top of the solid design, it seems well-built and looks good. What more could you need?

Good quality net release with a few drawbacks
When I received this magnetic net holder I was really looking forward to trying it out. I was out last weekend for opening day of trout season and all in all, I was pleased with the net holder. The magnet holds the net securely in place and it did not come unhooked at any time through out the day. It is also easy to reattach the net. Typically I have a bungee tether that holds my net to my fishing vest. I lost that and this release was to replace it. So I liked how this release held the net in the center of my back as apposed to it hanging down by my knees where it would get caught on sticks and rock. The negative to that is that is when I would lean over to help my daughter unhook a trout the net would flop over my front shoulder and would get in the way. The only other negative is that you have a fairly strong magnet on the end of the coiled string so from time to time it would end up attaching to anything metal that I had hooked to my vest (pliers and finger nail clippers). At the end of it all, I am pleased with this purchase. I would recommend it to a friend but I wouldn't throw away the bungee tether that comes with the nets and run out to buy one of these but if you need a replacement to that tether, this isn't a bad option.

Magnets Are Very Strong
UPDATE: a few weeks ago I was fishing and went to reach for my net to land a fish, only to find the net was gone. The only thing there was one of the carabiniers attached to my d-ring on my sling pack. Not sure if the cord of the release somehow tore or if it somehow became unclipped from the carabiner, but I lost the release and my net. Don't think I'll be using a net release anymore. Since I'm not sure how it broke I can't blame it on the release itself, but I'm suspicious. This the first magnetic net release I've ever used. I purchased a new fly fishing sling pack and had nowhere to put my net, so I bought this release and put it on one of the pack's D-rings. The magnets are very strong and have no problem staying together even with the weight of a net pulling down on them. When putting the release back together, all I have to do is stick the handle of the net up in the general direction of the other end of the release on my back and they will snap together instantly. As I said this is the only magnetic release I've ever used but it has to be hands-down the best bang-for-your-buck you'll get for something like this.

A great value for what you get
First off I will say that the first Net Release I received was defective just like others have noted. One of the plastic loops pulled out exactly like the pic another reviewer shared. But........I sent a message to the seller at 8:30 at night. I got a response 10 minutes later and the seller sent me a new unit. This is what I will review as I think this is a great value. You will see the same net release sold under different names at some of the biggest fly fishing sites but at 2-2.5 times the price. I received by replacement in three days and it works perfectly. Feel secure if ordering that you will be taken care of by the seller. I suggested to them that they test each one before sending it out thus avoiding having to send a replacement and keeping buyers happy.

Inconsistent quality control
I’ve bought three of these in the past couple years. The first two worked fine and still do. The third one, received yesterday is defective. The second time I popped the magnets apart, one magnet just slid out of its housing, as it did the next several times. This makes it useless for its intended purpose. I don’t know if the magnets are press fit into the housing or are supposed to be glued/epoxied but one of the two magnets in my set was neither. It is not the buyers responsibility to correct manufacturing defects on a brand new product.
