It will operate on the foot switch, not the small black switch at the top. To change over, simply unscrew the base (4 screws with rubber feet), and remove the existing transformer in the base of the lamp, disconnecting it from the connectors. The new driver's wires simply go into the existing connectors: The 12v red and black output wires connect to the two silver wires that go up the stem of the lamp - I put the red live on the end. (The other two existing black wires in that connector can be left securely fastened and blank.) Nice and small, was simple to replace but the lights now have a delay between turning on and off.
