Natural Himalayan Salt , Tall Round Metal Basket lamp with Dimmer Switch | 8-10 lbs

UPDATES added (2013 & 2022) at end of this review. This lamp was one of my husband's birthday gifts. I was searching for something, well---way out there. A funky, novelty gift---something he had never seen before. I wasn't, however, prepared for the high quality of this lamp. It blew us both away! This is NOT a small lamp; it is heavy, well constructed, and it has presence. It would not be missed, in any room. Once we arranged the salt crystals to our liking, and flipped on the switch, we both simultaneously let out a BIG, 'ahhhhhhhh!' We would never have believed that such a small light bulb, would illuminate every crystal, to the point of appearing like a basket of fire. It actually looked inviting, like if we held our hands over it, we could warm them. And, the glow that filled the room was beautiful---not to mention complementary to every complexion. The crystals remained just slightly warm, even when the lamp was on for several hours. One of the things we immediately noticed, as the lamp warmed, was that we actually could smell the salt and the effects of the negative ions. According to the packaging, "A scientific study has shown that the lighted salt lamp increases the negative ion count up to 600%." I believe it, when it was overtly noticeable. So, it seems this 'novelty' gift has unexpectedly earned the status of a special treasure, beautifying our living room, and perhaps providing health benefits, as well. My hubby swears that he has already noticed a difference with his allergies, and the general freshness of the room. The basket is easy to set up, but will shed some salt in the process, so it's a good idea to work on a surface that is easily cleaned. It is recommended to be placed on some type of place-mat. I would also be very careful if you have small children, or pets. They may be attracted to these crystals---they ARE salt, and DO taste like salt, so they may want to put them in their mouth. It is also very heavy; a child could pull it off a table on themselves. If you're looking for a holiday gift, I couldn't recommend this lamp more highly. The history, alone, will wow most people. We're looking at pink salt crystals that have been harvested, from the Himalayan mountains, from a 250 million year old natural salt deposit. Then the crystals are sent to local artisans to craft the lamps. I find that fascinating! If you are remotely interested---this is a must have. Treat yourself, a friend, or loved one. I can almost guarantee there will be NO disappointment. UPDATE: 06/24/13. My lamp is still going strong with only two bulb replacements since purchase. It's still a focal point for curiosity and complements from those who have never seen such a lamp. Interestingly, Amazon now sells the replacement bulbs, at a good value, which have been a little hard to find. UPDATE: 11/12/22. My lamp has been on 24/7 since purchased in 2010. Yes, twelve years of performance. I've only change the bulbs a few times over the years. I use a low watt bulb (I think it's 4 watts now) that still lights up the salt bowl well. Mine doesn't have a dimmer. It only has an on-off switch. I wouldn't have found a dimmer switch useful. I still recommend the salt lamps. This one has been a joy for over a decade.

When I first saw a photo of this basket lamp, I loved it immediately. My first thought was that if I accidentally drop it, it won't break into pieces, because it already IS in pieces. ;-> I put it in a safe place, though, so it won't get knocked over. I also put it where I can easily see it from everywhere in the room. I like how you can rearrange the chunks any way you like based on size, shape and color. The dimmer switch is great too! I have mine on the brightest setting. I've had it for several days, and leave it on all the time. I have annoying seasonal allergies (sneezing, etc, etc.) and they seem better lately. My son has frequent migraines and chronic insomnia, and I hope this will help him too. He doesn't believe Himalayan Salt has healing properties, but I do. If the lamp DOES help him, it certainly won't be the placebo effect! ;-> Anyway, I sincerely hope it will help him. The original reason I bought this lamp was for the wonderful, cozy visual warmth it brings into the room. My eyes are constantly drawn to it. It's like a mini firebowl without the fire hazard or the messy ashes. I'm going to put a clear dessert plate under the lamp to catch the salt flakes that fall through. I also added some orange & yellow silk leaves here and there among the salt chunks to look like 'flames'. I like ALL Himalayan Salt lamps, but this is by far my favorite. I think it's the best value, because it's the largest size for the price. The basket is a great idea. Lamps are also much more convenient than the Himalayan Salt tea-light holders. No lighting matches and buying tea-lights that only last a few hours, and you can't leave them unattended! Not only are salt lamps nice to look at during the day, but they're perfect night lights too. The lamp is bright enough, but not too bright, and the glow is soft, not harsh. I leave mine on all the time so the salt stays warm and hopefully keeps working on our various health issues. :-) I still like other novelty decorative lighting, but those look artificial compared to the soft glow of salt lamps. Now I want one for every room of the house! And, I'm telling family & friends about them. :-)

I am going to confess that I am not a review writer, but I am definitely a review reader! So for me to write this review, it must be for a great product! I have to say that I am absolutely in LOVE with this Salt Light. I recently started using YL essential oils and want to incorporate more natural things into my life to get healthier. I AM NOT A HEALTH NUT, but kudos to those who are because I wish I took better care of my body! So in the YL oil facebook page I am a part of with my group, someone mentioned using their oils on their "salt lamp" to heat up and disperse the oils. My eyebrows went up and I asked, "Salt Lamp?? Hmmmm?? Sounds weird to me!" So I Googled it and read about its air purifying information and decided I needed one in my home. Since I am an Amazon junkie, I immediately went to Amazon and scanned through all of the ones they had to offer. I chose this one because of the great price and how pretty it looked. Let me just say, this picture does it NO JUSTICE! When this lamp is plugged in and lit up, it is seriously one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen! I love the look of crystals and geodes and such, and this rates right up there with them on the "good looks" scale. It emits this beautiful amber colored glow, and it literally gives off the most calming feeling. My husband took it out of the box and turned it on the other night (because I am notorious for buying something and not setting it up right away) and I didn't know he did it. When we turned the light in the living room off to watch TV, it immediately cast its beautiful glow throughout the living room and I was like, "Woooooooaaaahhhhh. That. Is. Amazing!" I felt so relaxed and comfortable. I have seriously never would have expected a simple little LIGHT to have that kind of effect on me! It really is unbelievable! I mean, it's JUST A LIGHT, right? I can attest to the fact that it is so much more! In addition, it also has a solid, sturdy feel to it (it is quite heavy, so be careful) and an equally sturdy dimmer switch attached to it. So you can cast as much glow as you'd like. On it's highest setting, it is pretty bright...I would not say you could read by it, but it will light up your whole living room with a soft glow--enough for you to see as you are walking around. I will also admit that I was intrigued by the "pink salt?" that makes up these rose-quartz-looking chunks. Salt is pink?? Huh. So I stuck out the tip of my tongue and YEP, it's salt! I cannot comment on the air purifying effect in my house yet, but if you purchase this simply as a decorative lamp, you will not be sorry!

UP-Date. 9-22-13. My Husband has Allergies mainly in the morning. About two weeks after keeping this lite on all the time in the kitchen, he is NOT having any Allergies problems in the morning at all.. Before he could not stop sneezing, and using almost a box of kleenex.. I'm buying these for Xmas presents.. Just bought the 11 inch Himalayan salt..It is Beautiful..That said, love this look and it does work to purify the air. Just ordered from Amazon, another Himalayan basket for a gift, and the 8 inch light Salt..Going to keep that one next to his side of the bed.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I keep this at the far end of my kitchen..I have a open kitchen . When I make fish (salmon), we do not smell the fish odor very much. Not sure if it is from this, but It must be! The first one I got came in damaged. The bulb was broken in the socket. The Himalayan salts where mostly small, and falling threw the basket. The salts where mostly lite in color. I returned the first one I got. But The second one I received , the salt is Bigger, and a richer darker color. Since the salt is darker, when it is lite, it looks more like a fire underneath it. It does get warm, but not hot. It feels good to put your hands over the top to warm them up. You can touch the salt, it will not burn you. It gives off a nice glow, and looks like a bucket of Glowing hot rocks. The Dimmer light switch works fine, and i ordered extra 25 W.bulbs . When the light burns out, I think it is going to be a hassle to change the bulb, cause you have to take the salt rocks out again, then change the bulb, and put all the salt rocks back in carefully. The salt Rocks do make a mess when you first get this. I took mine outside, put news paper down to unwrap this. Then assembled it. I love the glow, but do think the medal basket looks a bit cheesy. It is a dark gray medal, maybe a dark pewter color. It is not the color that is bad, it's the basket. That said, I do not look at the basket anymore. It is the soft glow of the Salt rocks..Awesome, love this.

For Christmas 2013, I purchased one of these for me and one for a gift. Delivery was prompt and it arrived with solid packaging in several days after ordering. I have been very busy for several months and am just now unpacking and using mine. I am delighted! It looks exactly like the picture and is of good quality, a beautiful artistic accessory. The dimmer switch is helpful for when one desires barely any light when sleeping. Turned on highest illumination, with all the lights out, it puts out a nice soft glow with enough illumination to see for walking around. Actually it looks like a little bowl of fire embers. The people who received this as a gift from me love theirs too, except that their bulb burned out after using only two separate days. Fortunately, this model uses inexpensive and easy to find candelabra bulbs and the bulb is easy to change. They had theirs sitting on a glass table and said it weeped a good bit of salt and moisture since sitting there. Plates were not recommended in the manual to put this on, so I am guessing the glass table would be similar. I put mine on a large potholder and my friends are going to use one of those or a fabric place mat which was recommended. I have not used mine long enough to rate as a 5. Also, a bulb burning out after 48 hours was a disappointment to my friends after just taking time to set-up up. A design improvement would be to have a built in drip bowl at the bottom. Instructions said to leave on a lot to maximize air quality and health benefits and to dry out the moisture so that may help. Neither of us has used the lamp long enough to possibly realize air cleansing and health benefits, although I do believe that the benefits claimed are possible. Yet, one little lamp can only cover a limited area. That's why I intend to buy a few more of the lamps, perhaps in different styles, as wonderful additions to my home. Meanwhile, I would like to know if anyone is aware of how to add essential oils to the lamps for fragrance, perhaps putting a small open glass container with the fragrance oil under rocks and close to the light bulb. I haven't seen this mentioned in any of the material have read about salt lamps, so am guessing the oils could cause some damage to the salt rocks. Tell me if you know anything about whether this is possible.

*Update Dec 2013: 10 months later and the lamp is still going strong. Admittedly I rarely use it, but when I do I leave it on for hours. Still has a beautiful glow and I'm still using the original light bulb. Oh and the ionizing properties is a total lie. Original Review: Feb 2013 I bought this lamp for bedside use. I figure a salt lamp having ionizing properties is a nice plus. Positives: 1) Makes a very nice first impression. My friends have all been really impressed and surprised by how unique it is. Looks great even when unlit. 2) It's real salt mined in the mountains. I know this because one of the pieces actually has a broken drill bit in it. Not a big deal, I just put that piece in the bottom and towards the rear. 3) A very pleasant color. It emits a warm orange color that feels very natural, inviting and relaxing. 4) Reasonably bright with the 15 watt bulb and has dimming functions built into the cord. You can actually opt for a 25 watt bulb if you want increased brightness, but this lamp isn't really meant to be a bedside reading lamp. It works well if you're watching TV or anything that is backlit. Cons: 1) There is salt everywhere in the package when it arrives. As per another reviewer, you should definitely open this on a kitchen counter so you can sweep the salt into the sink. I personally took out every piece, shook the loose salt off, and put it back the way I like it. 2) The cord is pretty short. You may need an extension cable for it. 3) Not really a con, but you will need a plate or something underneath the salt lamp to catch the melted residue. I generally keep my lamp on for 1-2 hours before I go to sleep and haven't notice any salt melted yet. Overall, I would highly recommend it! It's a surprisingly high quality product and the salt rocks just look great!

For 3 days, my children have been coughing during the day and a LOT at night. Toddler and infant. We do everything we can to avoid antibiotics, so we went full force with all the natural options we could find for them. The salt lamp was impressive! I turned it on right away, shut the bedroom door, left the fan on low to circulate the air, and let it run all day. Then I put baby in there to sleep at night. The salt lamp was the only thing we did differently from the night before- and she slept great! Coughing was reduced over 50% from the night before. She slept a solid 6 hours, like she usually does (the night before she was up every hour or so from the coughing). The lamp is BEAUTIFUL turned on, the photo on amazon really can't show how pretty it is. I was impressed at the amount of salt- the rocks overflow the basket. The basket is a nice pallor, very pretty. It's just a gorgeous piece that would look great in any living space- I have it in my daughters nursery but I would happily put it in my living room in a prominent location. I will most definitely be ordering another one to do just that! I can almost "smell" the salt when it's turned on high. The dimmer switch is easy to use- it is a little knob that you can actually grab and turn instead of a disk that you slice, like most dimmers. It love the dimmer option, so that I can turn it down to not be bothersome at night. Turned all the way up, it give a nice glow to the whole room-enough light to get around comfortably but could still sleep, too. Overall did what I hoped it would, aesthetically pleasing, and great price.

I purchased a Himalayan Salt Lamp after much research concerning all the wonderful and positive benefits they can provide. I was looking for all natural solutions for air purification as well as something to neutralize positive ions that are produced by all the technology, electronic devices and appliances we have in our home. So this was what I felt was at least worth giving a shot based on all that I had heard and read concerning them. This lamp has completely exceeded all that I could have hoped for. I love the simplistic beauty of this piece. It produces such a warm, welcoming and relaxing glow. I especially love the dimmer switch that allows you to adjust the amount of light it produces. This works great when you want to leave it on over night, but don't want the light to be so bright that it keeps you awake at night. Even on the lowest setting, it is still just so beautiful. It truly is such a unique and beautiful piece that it would compliment any style or décor. We have noticed many positive benefits since using this lamp daily. The air really does seem more purified. My husband had suffered for years with constant allergy and sinus problems. After implementing the use of this lamp as well as diffusing of essential oils, we noticed that his symptoms began to lessen and the repetitive sinus infections he once suffered from were a thing of the past. Some may notice benefits immediately, while personally I believe that this can take some time and provides the best results when used daily and long term. I know I will never be without at least one of them in my home. To be honest, I plan on purchasing at least two more lamps so I can have them in each bedroom as well as the living room.

There are many sites that preach the health benefits of using salt lamps. They supposedly clean the air. The owner of my local health food store swears by them. I did not buy my salt lamps for that purpose. I bought the Natural Himalayan Basket as an accent piece in our living room. It is gorgeous with a soft. pleasant fire-like glow that is very comforting. I have the basket salt lamp and another salt lamp on in the evenings while watching tv and on cloudy, darker days. If anything, even if they don't clean the air, they are amazing stress reducers! That in itself makes salt lamps worth every penny. They are pretty too, fitting into any decor, giving a beautiful ambiance to any room! The natural himalayan basket salt lamp is dimmable. I have mine controlled by home automation to come on based on a schedule or room illumination level so never touch the actual control. However, the dial control is easy to adjust manually. The basket is a nice size. Salt lamps tend to drop a few salt grains occasionally so I have mine on a clear protector. It is not suitable for damp locations.

This really raises the spirits! A delightful basket of salt chunks than you can easily re-arrange and provides a calming atmosphere as well as displaying a gentle glow to the area. The dimmer switch is easy to operate - I do suggest you buy a couple of spare bulbs as, if the bulb blows, you'll be so disappointed to not have a ready replacement. The lamp itself weighs over 8 lbs, so don't place it where it is unstable or likely to be knocked. A wonderful centrepiece to hearth or table.

I spent some time reading the reviews on this lamp before I'd actually purchased it. Whether or not it works for allergies or not, this lamp is absolutely gorgeous. The colour resembles flames of a fire, it's very calming. Although there are colour variations in the salt rocks, that's what makes it so beautiful. I prefer to place the lighter rocks on the bottom of the basket and the darker rocks at the top. The first time I set up the light, the dimmer switch chord/bulb stopped working after about 15 minutes. So, I used a light bulb/chord from one of my decorative Christmas Village houses. Then, I contacted the company via email, and told them about my misfortune. They admitted that periodically it happens, and they sent a replacement chord and two bulbs free of charge, It arrived within a week. Their customer service is EXCELLENT! Overall, I would highly recommend this beautiful lamp to anyone who is looking to add warmth and beauty to their living room. I get compliments on it from every one who visits my home... The very first thing they say is.... "OMG! That's gorgeous! Where did you get it?"

This lamp is just perfect for what i wanted it for..It is standing in my empty fire place and gives off a lovely warm glow. It looks so cosy you feel like you could warm yours hands over it! I love it.

This lamp is so much nicer than I expected. I love the dimmer switch, makes it so cozy at night. I used to burn a lot of candles at night but since I got this lamp I haven't lit one. One thing I might add, and maybe everyone did this as well, is that the salt pieces needed to be wiped off before arranging them in the wire basket so I just gave each piece a quick brush over the kitchen sink with a soft vegetable brush to clean off any loose particles. That part was a little time consuming but well worth it. I am definitely going to buy another one for a gift because they would look great in anyone's home. Very very happy!! :)
