My DMT aligner was missing a stone holder, so I got this. The rod seems straight, and it holds stones well. The included 600 grit pocket stone is a welcome addition to any backpack.

I love this gadget
Use this with the DMT blade holder and go for it - I think I've turned everything in my house into a weapon, LOL. It works on just about anything - this piece holds the DMT stones very snug - with zero play. The aligning rod clicks into place when fully open and stays in place the whole time. Easy to change stones and lock in the new grade. I honestly wasn't expecting this to be as effective as it is - I hardly ever use my other, much larger and more $$$ sharpening set up unless I'm working on some really thick, like a chisel. This is THE knife sharpener for all sized knives - you'll be happy you bought this if you do.

Best I've found
I have literally spent many hundreds of dollars on every type of knife sharpener I could find. This, with the plastic dohickey that sets the angle, gives me the results I have been chasing fore nearly 50 years. I know all it does is set thestone to knife angle, but this setup give me results that I'm not ashamed of -at long last.

Not my favourite DMT sharpener
I've been using DMT sharpeners for years, they're great. This particular one is small, the holder bit helps but I (8" hand) could use a bigger holder.The full kit (the other part is the guide that clip on to the spine of the blade, I bought that elsewhere) helps you keep the blade at a constant angle while sharpening. It does the job well enough. Things it does not do include acute angles, small blades, plus it's not so good at larger blades (9" chef's and longer) -- but you can always use the sharpeners without the guide. The sharpeners don't come in black (xx-coarse) and orange (xx-fine) in this size either.I can hold the angle without the kit so I ended up giving it to my parents and getting myself a set of DMT's "diafold" sharpeners instead.

DMT makes a very nice product. I really like the interchanging part to this set up. Its a perfect width and compacts up nice.
