Wings of Fire fans will love this dragon adventure series! In this first book, Grace and her friends must protect a newly hatched dragon from mysterious evildoers. When Grace moves to Hong Kong with her mom and new stepdad, her biggest concern is making friends at her fancy new boarding school. But when a mysterious old woman gifts her a dragon egg during a field trip, Grace discovers that the wonderful stories of dragons she heard when she was a young girl might actually be real--especially when the egg hatches overnight. The dragon has immense powers that Grace has yet to understand. And that puts them both in danger from mysterious forces intent on abusing the dragon's power. And now it's up to Grace and her school friends to uncover the sinister plot threatening the entire city! Review: 🌟 Fantastic, Action-Packed Adventure – A Great Bridge for Reluctant Readers! 🌟 - I highly recommend City of Dragons: The Awakening Storm! This graphic novel was a massive hit in our household, especially with my nine-year-old daughter. As a parent of a child with dyslexia, we have found that the format of graphic novels is a fantastic bridge to make reading less intimidating and more comfortable. This book captured her attention immediately and kept her hooked until the very last page. My Daughter's Review (Age 9): My daughter described the book perfectly: “It was an action-packed story! Even though there were a few scary bits—and by that I mean two—I would suggest this story for 9+ (but if your 8-year-old is close to 9, then I guess it’s fine). Even though there were guns in the story, no one got shot, and it was super fun reading it. While I read it, I wanted to get the next book already!” A Parent's Perspective on Themes: I understand some of the lower-rated reviews focus on perceived "adult themes" in the book. In my opinion, those parents have overreacted to the subject matter. The story is perfectly tailored to a 7/8+ reader and handles the fantastical action respectfully without being overly violent or inappropriate. The focus is on adventure, courage, and finding your place in the world. If you are looking for an exciting, engaging read that will keep your child turning pages and wanting more, look no further. This book is a true success! Review: Great graphics and engaging story - I bought this book for my daughter as she recently became interested in graphic novels. Once I opened the book and saw the graphics, I just had to read it as well. It is engaging for the targeted age, it had enough humor and a great plot to keep the reader wanting to keep going.

An Epic Start to a Thrilling New Series!
The Awakening Storm: A Graphic Novel (City of Dragons #1) is a masterclass in middle-grade fantasy. If you’re looking for a story that combines action-packed adventure, heartfelt characters, and stunning artwork, this is a must-read for kids and adults alike. Why This Graphic Novel Shines: Compelling Storytelling: The plot follows Grace, who moves to Hong Kong and discovers a mysterious dragon egg. The pacing is perfect—it pulls you in with a sense of wonder and keeps you turning pages with high-stakes mystery and ancient secrets. Breathtaking Illustrations: The art style is vibrant and cinematic. The way the dragons are rendered is both majestic and unique, and the bustling cityscapes of Hong Kong feel alive on the page. Relatable Themes: Beyond the magic, it’s a story about friendship, courage, and finding where you belong. Grace is a fantastic protagonist—brave but vulnerable—making it easy for young readers to connect with her journey. Perfect for All Readers: Whether you're a fan of Wings of Fire or Avatar: The Last Airbender, this book hits all the right notes. It’s accessible for reluctant readers thanks to the visual format, but deep enough to satisfy seasoned fantasy fans. The Verdict: Jaimal Yogis and Vivian Truong have created something truly special. It ends on an incredible hook that will leave you sprinting to grab the next volume. This is a high-quality, beautiful book that deserves a spot on every shelf!

Awesome adventure - my boys loved it!
This is an awesome first installment in the City of Dragons series. Both my 9 & 11 year old boys loved it. Maybe the best indication of how we feel about this great book is that we can’t wait for Book 2 to come out! My 11 year old son’s favorite parts included an exciting rescue by a king dragon, and the cliffhanger at the end of the book. He also rated it as “definitely deserving to be on the best seller list”. My 9 year old son’s favorite parts included when the little dragon attacked the kidnappers and when the kids got to fly on a dragon king. It goes without saying that the beautiful, intricate artwork further elevates the great story. We would highly recommend this book to any YA reader (or anyone) who enjoys adventure & fantasy stories, especially about dragons!

Cool and engaging graphic novel
I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter and she said it was the best comic she had ever read. She has read it many times and finds it fascinating, super interesting and funny. It is an adventure story about a girl who has an unusual friend, a dragon, and she herself has dragon ancestors. The friends work together to fight the villain and save the planet. The comic has nice colourful illustrations and perfectly fits the age group of young readers.
