The opening mechanism can be accessed by removing the 3 (if I remember right) screws on the inside of one of the scales. I have had mine apart and I personally sharpened the seatbelt cutter... It's worth noting that the cutter doesn't seem like it is hardened. It's essentially 2 very thin pieces of sheet metal and dulls very quickly. **Q: what is dangerous that there is a legal disclaimer?** A: I would hesitate to answer for Kershaw’s lawyers, but as a customer and a frequent knife user, I love it.
