No one on screen has ever topped Jeremy Brett. Like David Suchet as Hercule Poirot, Jeremy was Holmes. I bought a different set of Sherlock Holmes CDs and they left out "Empty House"!!! This set has it plus 3 more stories included. I like Radio Spirits products. These stories are used as a sleeping aid to shut down a busy mind and it works for me. Review: Holmes at its best on the radio! - If you had to buy one radio collection of Sherlock Holmes I suggest that this is the one to buy. No it is not as complete as the BBC Box set, but arguably John Gielgud and Ralph Richardson are the best radio Holmes and Watson. These are the same recordings as found in A Baker Street Dozen with the additions of: The Bruce-Partington Plans; Silver Blaze; The Red Headed League and the Empty House. Why we can't buy just these 4 additional stories of course is pure unconscionable, profit-gouging by the manufacturer. But, if you want the best or haven't bought any of these before, then get this series. Not only do I think they are the best but my kids and grand-kids do too. The accompanying program guide is a worthwhile addition. The scripts by John Kier Cross are superb. Radio is the Theatre of the Mind and these are everything you could ask for and more.

Great Old Radio Shows
Although to me Basil Rathbone is the best Holmes of all time, I really enjoyed these old radio programs with Sir John Gielgud & Sir Ralph Richardson as Holmes & Watson. These are shows using the original Conan Doyle stories. Orson Welles even shows up as Moriarty in 'The Final Problem'. The programs have been remastered & sound really good. A booklet comes along with the CDs giving some info about the shows. Great fun.

Different but as good in its way as the Basil Rathbone and Nigel ...
Quality recordings of original SH stories with John Gielgud as SH and Ralph Richardson as JW. Different but as good in its way as the Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce set of revised recordings. Does not contain all of the series.. I would have preferred the entire series, whatever their quality. All in all, a very satisfying set of recordings.

but not the best of radio
Enjoyable, but not the best of radio recordings

Well produced and the characterization of Watson is true to that of Conan Doyle; that is, not a buffoon as in other depictions.
