There are two source options for illumination - a focussed spot light, or a more diffuse area light. Both are impressively bright for night time working, and both can be dimmed by holding down the multi-function switch.The mounting options are very well thought out indeed, and most of the time I use mine clipped to my shirt or trouser belt, to provide forward facing light.
