MOVIE:- Best life adaptations of Pinocchio. The story was based more on the Disney version, rather than the classic tale itself. However, they managed to throw in some of the original elements that were not in the Disney movie. It's funny, charming, strange, and scary (if you really think about it and read the actual story, Pinocchio is a dark tale).- Casting was perfect. The actors and actresses did a phenomenal job. The late Martin Landau wonderfully portrayed the warm and kind nature of Geppetto. Jonathan Taylor Thomas voiced the innocent and naive Pinocchio really well. But to me, Udo Kier stole the show as the antagonist. He's scary and manipulative, without being too over the top. And Bebe Neuwirth was beautiful and mischievous at the same time.- Costumes, props, and setting were great. The feel of being in an old fictional Italian village was really well done.- Music was great as well. Personally, I prefer this one to the Disney version.- Special effects was okay. Animatronic, stop/go motion, and cgi were used. Pinocchio does seem come to life. For close-ups and full shots (simple walking), animatronic/puppet were used. While the running used stop/go motion. The cgi was the downside part of this movie. It's on the same level as Anaconda, but compare to the run-time of the movie, the usage was very minimal. So it's not that big of a deal, but can seem very cartoon-ish.Overall, I like this one better than the Disney take.DVD:Not much to offer (probably because the movie itself was not well received), so don't expect much.- Full-screen (traditional TV) and widescreen (HDTV).- One behind the scene footage, which is really short so we don't get to see much.- Two interactive games, but I find them to be really boring.- New Line's film highlight (just a poster of Monkey Trouble, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Theodore Rex).- And the standard scene selections, subtitles (English and Spanish), theatrical trailer and cast info.- Double sided cd (side 1: full-screen version and dvd features. Side 2: widescreen version).

My three year old granddaughter stayed glued.

One of the all time classics is the cartoon version but we love this one even more! My special needs son really loves this and it is one of his favorites, however, the adults love it too!

This is the perfect family movie. If you are 1 or 100 you can enjoy this movie. It's about an old man that is a puppet maker, and he wants a child of his own. He makes a puppet out of a tree that he had carved a heart into long ago. He names the puppet Pinocchio because it is made of pine. The log he used was magical and the puppet came to life. Pinocchio wants desperately to be a real boy for his papa. He has to prove himself worthy of being a real boy. He get's into trouble and his conscience has to get him out. If he lies his nose grows, sometimes it get's so long it grows leaves and has a birds nest on it. He makes a bad decision and gets donkey ears and a tail. Him and his papa get swallowed up by a wale and he needs to tell lies to make his nose grow to get them out. Eventually he becomes a real boy and they live happily ever after.

This movie is really special to my heart. I love it to the fullest. I believe its a great adaptation. Only problem is i wish the disc itself wasnt a flip disc. Other than that, this is perfect

It's such a shame this movie failed at the box office at the time, as it's one of the best family movies I've ever seen. The cast is excellent across the board, especially Martin Landau. The look and design of the movie is superb..you truly feel that you are in this far place a long time ago where magic can spring up in the unlikeliest of places. The Jim Henson Creature Shop work on Pinocchio is a marvel and holds up very well today. And perhaps most surprising and satisfying of all, it's amazing just how emotional this movie is, particularly as it heads toward the ending. Seek this movie out if you get the chance...!

Bellissimo film, non è in alta definizione, pazienza, ho riconosciuto tanti grandi attori quali : Martin Landau (Spazio 1999- Cleopatra), Ugo Kier (Melancholia- Blade), Bebe Neuwirt ( Jumanji 1995+ Jumanji The next level), Genevieve Bujold),Dawn French (HARRY POTTER e il prigioniero di Azkaban) da non perdere...

Für mich ist "Die Legende von Pinocchio" die beste Verfilmung des Romans von Carlo Collodi. Neben der tollen Besetzung wurde der Film auch liebevoll ausgestattet und auch die Special Effects sind toll gelungen. Lediglich wenn man die Puppe von weitem gehen sieht bewegt sie sich etwas "hölzern" ;-). Abgesehen davon ist Pinocchio grandios animiert. Die Mimik ist so überzeugend gemacht, man fragt sich nur wie.Nachdem es bisher nur lieblose DVDs gab, die nicht nur im falschen Bildformat waren sondern nicht mal den O-Ton hatten, war für mich die Überraschung entsprechend groß, dass der Film nun sogar gleich als 3D Blu-ray erscheint. Und diese ist wirklich gelungen. Das Bild ist knallbunt und hat nicht mal ansatzweise irgendwelche analogen Defekte. Alles wurde makellos entfernt. Allerdings wurden wohl Rauschfilter eingesetzt um das Bild glattzubügeln und darunter leidet leider auch die Schärfe. Wenn man darüber wegsieht hat man so ein astreines Bild, das aussieht wie ein Film, der gerade erst digital gedreht wurde. Analoges Bildrauschen ist keines mehr zu sehen. Schwarzwert und Kontrast könnten etwas besser sein aber dafür begeistern die kräftigen Farben, die wunderbar zur Stimmung des Film passen. Besonders in der Gerichtsszene und der Bäckerei kommt das gut über.Dieses Glattbügeln wiederum ist halt auch die Voraussetzung für ein brauchbares 3D Bild. Und ich würde sagen mit der Konvertierung kann man zufrieden sein. Natürlich kann es nicht mit Referenz-Konvertierungen wie "Titanic" mithalten aber in einigen Szenen bietet es eine ordentliche Tiefenwirkung. Aber wer wirklich gedacht hat, dass die Szene im Klassenzimmer, wo Pinocchio zum ersten Mal die Nase wächst, ein 3D Highlight ist, wird wohl enttäuscht, dazu ist die Nasenspitze einfach zu unscharf. Würde man den Film heute in 3D drehen hätte er natürlich ein ganz anderes Potenzial. Im Großen und Ganzen würde ich den Film eher in 2D empfehlen. Der Mehrwert durch 3D ist einfach zu gering. Da aber auf der Disc beide Fassungen enthalten sind kann man guten Gewissens zur 3D Variante greifen. Zumal diese aktuell (18. Oktober) bei Amazon billiger angeboten wird als die 2D Blu-ray (!!!). Ob es sich dabei um einen Fehler handelt kann ich nicht beurteilen. Über den sehr günstigen Preis der 3D Blu-ray habe ich mich jedenfalls sehr gewundert.Auch der Ton ist zufriedenstellend. Einige Szenen (im Bauch des Wales, im Theater) bieten richtig guten Basseinsatz und in vielen anderen Szenen gibt es eine gute Räumlichkeit vor allem Dank der Musik. Beide Sprachen sind in 5.1 HD Master Audio. In der englischen O-Fassung finde ich es etwas irritierend, dass die Schauspieler so viele verschiedene Akzente sprechen. Mit britischem (Dawn French) mit amerikanischem (Jonathan Taylor Thomas) mit deutschem (Udo Kier) und italienischem (Martin Landau) Akzent. Komparsen reden im Hintergrund sogar italienisch. Das will alles nicht so richtig zusammen passen. Schade. In der Synchronfassung gibt es das Problem natürlich nicht.Das Cover ist sehr schön gelungen weil man Pinocchios Gesicht gut erkennen kann. Es gefällt mir sogar besser als das alte Kinoplakat. Und es ist erfreulicherweise ein Wendecover ohne FSK Verschandelung.Größer Wermutstropfen: Es gibt kein Bonusmaterial außer einem Trailer vom Film. Und das ist schon sehr schade, gerade bei einer Produktion dieser Größe. Wie schön wäre es wenn es ein Making of gäbe, bei dem man ein bisschen was über die Erschaffung der beeindruckenden Puppe erfahren könnte. Aber nicht einmal deutsche Untertitel gibt es. Normalerweise neige ich dazu deswegen einen Stern abzuziehen. Andererseits ist die Blu-ray zu einem ungewöhnlich günstigen Preis zu haben und die Qualität im Allgemeinen ist eine Überraschung. Deswegen gebe ich die volle Punktzahl und empfehle den Film zumindest in der 2D Version uneingeschränkt.

Für die kleinen Kinder vielleicht etwas gruselig aber deshalb bleibt er ja auch im Gedächtnis.
