KWJZ is proud to present Volume 10 of our benefit CD sampler. This volume highlights many new songs and artists from this past year. We are pleased to once again be raising money for music awareness and education programs for youth here in the Puget Sound. We thank you for supporting this cause and invite you to enjoy more from these wonderful artists anytime at 98.9 Smooth Jazz KWJZ The funds raised from this CD will go directly to The Jackson Street Music Program which is named in honor of the famed historical Seattle music district that flourished from the 30's through the 50's. The Jackson Street district's abundance of talent helped influence such great artists as: Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, Jimi Hendrix and many others who have shared there talents around the world. The program's goal is to inspire youth's creativity as well as their social and cultural productivity by promoting life skills and creative thinking through the art of music. Another addition to the KWJZ 98.9 Smooth Jazz series
If you already collect the KWJZ 98.9 Smooth Jazz series, as many Smooth Jazz fans in the Seattle area do, then you will probably want to own this CD as well. That said, I don't think this is the best CD in the 98.9 series. While only a couple of songs are really below par (especially the smultzy "Biggest Part of Me"), some of the choices could have been much better.I was particularly puzzled by the dated nature of some songs. From a sampler such as this, one normally wants all songs that debuted or hit big in the year the sampler was released (which, in this case, is late 2006). So why so much old material here?In particular, I don't think "September" -- an Earth, Wind & Fire hit from the late-70s -- belongs on a Smooth Jazz sampler CD in the first place, let alone one put out in 2006.In the end, if you already collect the KWJZ 98.9 Smooth Jazz series, then you will probably want to own this CD as well. If you don't, this is not the first one you want to buy.

Predictable, enjoyable
This series is a personal favorite. The selections are those listeners of KWJZ-FM Seattle have enjoyed throughout the year and the money goes for a good cause. Nothing earth-shaking. As the title implies, a sampler, sometimes the only notable cut from an otherwise undistinguished CD. Why buy the cow to get the cream?
