Is it good for throwing at targets?

In my opinion, No. This is a great Camp Axe. Heavy for it's size. Needs sharpening out of the box. If you want to Throw ( I do) buy a tomahawk, a Frankish axe or Viking throwing axe that are meant for throwing. Good Luck!

The description says the cutting edge is 3.25 inches but what is the measuremetn from edge tip to edge tip in a straight line?

I'd say about that. I cant measure it right now, but 3 or 3.25 looks about right.

Does this come with a sheath or blade guard?

Mine came with a blade guard only, but I bought it from a different vendor for 20 bucks. I purchased a heavy duty OD canvas sheath at the Army/Navy store for 4 bucks. By the way, I really like mine and the steel is very good!
