Piece in the Hoop: 20 Quilt Projects + 40 Machine Embroidery Designs

Great book with Quilting blocks to make in the hoop
I have already made 3 of the designs from this book. The CD in the back has the design files for my machine and the book itself has pictures like a tutorial. The only thing missing seems to be a printable list for each design file telling which piece you put in your hoop for each thread number.

Needs more information
A couple reviewers have already commented on the lack of information provided up-front, such as included embroidery file types and size of embroidery field. Not everyone with embroidery machines have software that allows them to read a variety of file types, convert them to others, and to change size of designs to match the limitations of their equipment. So this information is crucial to provide in an Internet store. Finished sizes of most projects are provided but were missing for at least two projects within the book. Quilters also like knowing the size of the finished blocks. That information is not provided. I personally don't care for the projects or the fabrics and colors used in the examples, but that in itself would not stop me from giving high marks. I envisioned using this to design my own projects with the block instructions and designs provided in the book. Knowing block sizes up front would save some effort toward that end. I have read at least two reviews saying that there is a crazy patch design provided. That is not the case in the version I purchased, however, you can find nice ones in "Embroidery Machine Essentials, Piecing techniques". That book is available used on Amazon but appears to no longer be in print. I found a copy at my local public library. In any event, if you are looking for a "piece in the hoop" crazy patch, this is not the book you want. To the book's credit, it does sell itself only as a method for piecing in the hoop, and the title does state these are "quilt" projects, so there should be no confusion about what this is. But it seems to me it might have been a logical next step to include designs and instructions to also quilt in the hoop, meaning the design that is stitched to connect the 3 layer quilt sandwich together. This is truly only about piecing in the hoop and you will have to come up with your quilting motifs and plans on your own.

Not a quilter, and yet fun, easy, and high quality
I was at first tempted to give the book only four stars because the PDF numbered guides were not on the DVD. However, I did find them on Larisa's site, [...]under the link for book updates. Given that, no hesitation for a 5-star review. Great job, Larisa and Nancy - the DVD was excellent. The designs are basic and could be adapted to a lot of uses. I'm not a quilter, but I do like many of the pieced projects and intend to make several. I did the crazy patch last night, and it was flawless. I used cotton fabric, no adhesive of any kind, and the Clover mini-iron. Worked great. If I used any kind of poly blend fabric, I might want an adhesive to keep the pieces from slipping, but cotton doesn't slip around too much in my experience, so I found on the crazy patch that I didn't need any adhesive at all. For what that's worth ...Here is the link for the PDF that includes the numbered guides. [...]

Easiest way to learn In the Hoop techniques and projects. Terrific publication.
This publication, with included DVD, solved all the difficulties I have experienced with In the Hoop projects. The instructions were clear and comprehensive, providing a complete visual tutorial experience. I made the ironing pad in one session with perfect results. Although I could not source the silver heatproof fabric used in the tutorial, the silicon ironing sheet purchased from a quilt shop was a satisfactory substitute. The in the hoop process is simply brilliant as it eliminates unsatisfactory results caused by inaccurate cutting and sewing. Although the project pieces are small as the sewing area is restricted to the size of electronic embroidery hoops, completed pieces can be sewn together like patchwork to create quilts of any size. I am extremely happy with this purchase from Amazon and highly recommend it to new and experienced quilters/electronic emnbroiderers.

What every embroidery machine owner should have in their library
I got my copy several years ago, and just love it -- then after speaking to my daughter - and she didn't have a copy, I sent her one for her birthday. Now we can both do these wonderful projects - I've made about 5 of the pin cushions in the hoop and they are wonderful -- only negative is that you cannot enlarge any of the patterns, at least my software won't let me, I'm using 4D - husqvarna software - I guess I should try my friend's software to see if it does it - she has 5D

Didn't have the DVD
I was disappointed! The book was in good shape, but it did not have the DVD it is suppose to have. I realize it is not new, but the other options available for purchase stated that theirs did not have the DVD which has the designs for some of the projects in this book.

Quilting in the Hoop
I purchased this book as I want to make a throw like quilt from my recently deceased husband's flannel shirts that he loved so much. I wanted to be able to use as many different pieces as possible and chose the crazy patch design. I stitched out a couple blocks to see how it would look and was very pleased with the ease of the instructions and great photos describing each step. There were some errors in the printing on several pages that need correcting. I went to the web site and was able to make the necessary corrections. Overall, I am enjoying the book and the video and highly recommend for anyone wanting to try quilting in the hoop.

Great book
This looks to be a really great book, with all I need to get me started.I only have the basic software that came with my machine [Pfaff creative performance] but I can download and print out the design sheets for the included piecing and embroidery, which another reviewer said they couldn't do. With the design open in the 5D organiser, I right clicked the design, and could then print off thread types and colours, plus a plan of the fabric pieces required for each project. All very clearly explained, and seemingly idiot proofLooking forward to using the designs.

easy patchwork
This book is so well written, it is foolproof. Pictures for every stage of making the different blocks, so each block will be the correct size and great for using up all those little pieces of scrap fabric that you have saved for years.Including a DVD to watch each process is just the icing on the cake, so you cannot go wrong. This book you will use again and again, nut just read it and put it on the shelf with lots of other books. Good for getting started in piecing
Very nicely laid out book and easy to follow. Would have given it five but felt some of the projects included were not geared to English sewers - but then it is an American publication so that is to be expected. Would have liked to have seen some small projects eg pieced purses in the hoop or coasters or even the very popular (in the States) mug rugs. After seeing my copy a friend has also bought it.

Lovely but useless
No CD or link for kindle book which you need to do designs. If you want to use this buy the hardback not the kindle. Frankly I could spit tacks I am so frustrated trying to find a link to the design CD or download. A nice but expensive mistake.
