Sock-Yarn Shawls: 15 Lacy Knitted Shawl Patterns

Good for all knitters levels
Beautiful patterns of lace knitting and creation of shawls. Lace can be challenging so if you’re new to it, start with a simpler pattern. The first lace shawl I did was, of course, very complex. I think I ended up with 900 stitches. With lace you have to be exact with the number of stitches you’re supposed to have. There’s no room for errors because the lace pattern will be ruined by the addition or subtraction of even 1 stitch. But even though it’s challenging, it’s fun and the end results are breathtaking. These patterns work for everyone from enthusiastic beginners to experienced so enjoy.

Excellent book for lace knitters of all levels.
The purple shawl in the picture is my version of the cover shawl, and it turned out absolutely beautiful. I’m a fairly experienced knitter, but even a newer lace knitter will be able to make the projects in this book. (Don’t be dissuaded by the reviews that criticize the clarity of the directions. The overall directions for each project include the charts, with the written instructions for the lace portions of each shawl set forth separately, for knitters who don’t use charts - but I encourage you to learn to use the charts, as they are definitely the easiest way to make these shawls, or any other lace or cable knitted project). The only downside to this book is that the glued binding cracked easily when I opened the book flat. I took it to the local copy shop and had it spiral bound for a few dollars, problem solved and now every page stays flat and is easily read. I have enjoyed 8 or more of the patterns in this book, making it an excellent value.

knitting sock yarn into lovely shawls
Page 74 tab cast on is the basis to begin a triangular lace shawl. I love this style. You can continue with just the what it's call a yarn over basic shawl or get into the lace. I am knitting page 13 inflorescence shawl pattern. I have accumulated a lot of sock yarn, mostly cascade heritage, solid colors. I am using red for this shawl. I plan to use the 3 different blues in bands of color changes maybe 4 inches each light to dark like a colorwash. I am early in the category of intermediate knitter and feel this book a challenge yet possible. Starting in December knitting gifts for 2014 birthdays and Christmas. I am very pleased with the style this book is written in, easy to follow. Charts are written out, easier for Mr to do than the picture of a chart for me.Worth the investment. Worthy to be in your knitting collection.

Beautiful Shawls
These shawls are beautiful, and the best thing about this e-book is that the lace charts are downloadable. This is a huge advantage with a Kindle Fire since it is almost impossible to knit from a screen before the screen goes dark. Much better than most of the magazines I've downloaded that have no links for pdf charts. The illustrations for the tab cast on are also very helpful. These and the customary stitch abbreviation explanations are toward the back of the book instead of the usual placement at the front. The only bad thing about this book is deciding which of the patterns to try first!

Wonderful Accessories
Wonderful patterns. It's difficult to choose which ones to knit. I particularly like that there are both charts and written instructions for all of them.I have completed several and have found no errors in the patterns -- which is common in patterns I've gotten online. The instructions are very clear and I believe an advanced beginner could successfully complete them. There are also instructions on how to enlarge the shawls if you have more yarn than is called for in the pattern. The smaller sizes take only a couple of evenings to complete but yield beautiful products.

Beautiful shawls
I am checking on various yarns and checking carefully as to color that I want to have for the finished shawl. I have not knitted/crocheted any yet so i am not sure of the pattern but so far it is very interesting as fingering yarn is limited as to color or variationNov 2,2013I am still trying to figure out the charts ........not as easy to follow as I had hoped . I am an experienced knitter so didnt think I would have a problem making these for our daughter .......still trying to make the first one ........

Shawls From Sock Yarns
This beautiful book for knitters is filled with shawl patterns that can be knit with sock yarns. If you're like me, you have tons of sock yarns in your stash and don't want to use all of it on socks. This provides a wonderful alternative for all that beautiful sock yarn. Most of the patterns require just one skein and that means you won't have to go out and spend a lot of money on new yarns. The patterns are both written out and charted, which works well for me as I prefer the written out patterns. This is a beautiful book and a wonderful addition to every knitter's library.

Fantastic Designs
I have just completed my first Sock-Yarn shawl, the first in the book. The instructions and charts are easy to read and have created a beautiful mini shawl. Can't wait to start the next one. I was not sure how well it would work using an E-Reader book pattern. Needn't have worried. The pictures are useful and can be increased in size to get a closer look, something that can't be done on Ravelry.

A gem of a book!
This is a great book to add to any knitters collection!! If you're new to lace knitting this is a great place to start. There is a good variety of patterns to choose from, the instructions are charted and written out clearly and each design is beautifully photographed. If you're an experienced knitter with a huge stash of sock yarns you wouldn't be dissapointed in the choice of patterns, there's not a bad one in this book! Really pleased I bought it and looking forward to starting a shawl, just can't decide which one to do first! Love the little addition to each pattern telling you how to make it bigger if you want. I cannot fault this book!!

Perfect guide to lace knitting
As I love sock yarn in other projects than sock, I am finding this book very useful. Many nice ideas for a knitter on each level. And all useful information for any knitter.

Instructions clear and easy to follow
am working my way through this book at the moment. Instructions clear and easy to follow. I don't use the charts so cannot comment n them. For a beginner to shawls it is an excellent resource to get started with as the basics are covered as well as the introduction to lacy edges.
