2x20 Solar Pool Heater Panel Review
I got 2 of these panels - my pool is a 38ft x 54in deep. Observations:1) Water coming out of panels is hot to the touch - it does do a good job of heating the pool - but without a cover, we loose most of the heat it generates during the day. A cover is still a must.2) When first installed the system (using pool hose pieces and 2in couplers), the supply line hose expanded out to twice it's length - did not blow but eventually did after about a week. My inlet to the panels are ~18ft from my pump. The exit line sees no high pressure. I had to replace the supply side with the white "hot tub 2in hose" (higher pressure) - got it from Lowes.3) The panel inlet size is really TOO small to accept a 2in hose and ALMOST too tight for a 1.5in - but with the white hot tub hose you have no choice - had to use a 2in to 1.5in coupler and a small piece of the 1.5in clear web-reinforced hose - without this the 2in would NOT crimp down to the panel inlet.4) Water flow thru the panel system is MUCH less - thus it does not filter the water as efficiently - every 3-4 nights I open up my bypass (which is very simple to make out of PVC) - to get the water cleaned up.5) MAKE SURE you come up with a way to hold panels down to the ground - mine almost got trashed after first storm. I just used bent re-bar into u shape and hammered into ground around the panel tubes - both ends.

These work very well. Should remove and store inside during winter as they don't tolerate any amount of freezing and it's hard to get all water out when mounted.

What you need to know
I have been using these over the last 14 years, Sungrabber and also other brand names. Overall, I have found them similar, they have a 1.5 inch pipe (header) at the top and the bottom. If you are ordering multiple panels, they supply what is basically 4-inch pieces of cut radiator hose with radiator clamps to connect one panel to the next. The system works well for the most part.If you are looking for a 10 degree rise in temps, you need to figure the same surface area of panels as your pool surface area. This can take up much space in your yard. If you only use one panel on a large pool you will not “feel” warm water coming out of the return lines, although it will still be heating your pool a few degrees. However, you will have no way to measure the increase. Most people want to feel the warm water coming out of the returns to feel good about using their purchase. I put 100% of my pumps water through 4 panels with no diminished flow, if you were to use only one, you will need to ad a valve that will partially bypass some of the water to avoid low water flow. You can only push so much flow through each panel.Keep in mind there are 2 kinds of these panels- ones that leak and ones that will leak. The longest I have had one stay dry is 7 years but have had some go in 6 months. Think about this when you are mounting them, on the ground is much easier to repair than on a steep roof. They are not “set and forget”.I have mine paired with a Hayward solar GL-235 controller and a GV A-24 valve for automated temp control, they work well.

Good Deal
These panels do exactly as advertised. I have a 30k gallon inground pool and 4 panels plumbed to it. Excellent. We get to enjoy our pool a good extra month Spring & Fall. Panels do wear out and you have to replace 1 or 2 every few years but they really do the job! Kids get to swim earlier than anywhere else. You need to have space where the panels can get good sunlight to do best.

Very hard to hook up. Inlet and outlets not clearly marked. Thank god my son is a plumber. Once we figured it out it worked great.
