Both ends of the barbell come off, making it easy to switch the colors around if you want, or you could buy separate bars and add the ends to those. The screw end does stick out quite a lot and gets easily caught in hair, so be aware of that. The bar itself is a bit long for my ear; I wish this set was offered in various sizes, as my standard bar length is 1 3/8".
