If you use it to charge from a flood/AGM starting battery, it will limit the draw to the D.C.-D.C. charger rating. So if you have a 60A alternator, choose 20-30A charger **Q: I dont want my battery to be used to start my rv. does the charger contain a backfeed diode (to prevent power coming from the rv battery)?** A: A reverse current from the RV battery cannot occur. In addition, the Orion-TR Smart is isolated galvanically separated. **Q: I’ve connected the input terminals to the starter battery and confirmed 14.4 v at the input terminals. Why won’t my unit turn on? Defective unit?** A: There is a green connector inside the box to connect to the "remote" on the left side of the unit. It cannot run if there is a discontinuity between the 2 pole of this remote. **Q: Does this have a built in battery protect, or do i need to add this separately?** A: Not sure what you mean. It does monitor voltage levels and you can set specific charging profiles.
