I brought this wanting a way to play my cassette tapes on a new machine. I am certainly not disappointed with this boombox. I brought the Traditional Boombox (the black one) as I preferred its appearance to the other two. It's a matte black machine of a small-ish size, with the tuning knob on the right and the function change switch on the left. Unusually, the headphone port is on the back, along with the AUX port. To start with, the cassette tape mechanism is really easy to use and straightforward. The keys are on the top, and the door opens at the bottom. The sound is good quality from the speakers and is also good when wearing headphones. In case you were wondering, it plays cassette tapes in stereo, not mono. Also, as a bonus, it features an auto-stop mechanism. However, it does not have an auto-reverse function. The CD player is standard, with big buttons and the ability to repeat tracks. The door for the CD player isn't opened by a button, or by pressing it down. It's done by simply lifting it up, and then pushing it back down until it clicks. The CD player function also allows you to program it to play certain tracks on a CD in whatever order. I also tested it out on a custom CD that I burned myself (CD-R) and it played them just fine. The radio works well and the antenna isnโt needlessly long. The tuning wheel is on the right side of the boombox. The sound is good, just with the usual static from the radio, dependent upon your reception. The auxiliary port (AUX) works quite well when you've got a phone or other device connected by cable to the boombox. You may need to have the volume up on the device for the boombox to play it loud enough. One thing to note: this boombox DOES NOT have any kind of Bluetooth or wireless capability. If you want to listen to music on your phone, you will need a cable. This boombox also allows you to record onto cassette tape, which I tested out thoroughly. You can record onto cassette tape from the radio, CD player or AUX connection. Recording onto cassette tape using the radio is good, if your radio signal is also good. However, while listening to the recording using headphones, I noticed that the stereo recording got somewhat strange, and occasionally kept sounding muffled in either the left or right ear for a brief moment. It's not really noticeable unless you use headphones though. Recording onto cassette tape using the CD player isn't particularly good. The recorded sound comes out as muffled and not as great as you might expect. Recording from the radio sounds better. Then again, who records from CD to cassette tape? Recording onto cassette tape using the AUX connection works well, as it allows you to record any music on your phone onto the cassette tape. It comes out a little muffled, but not as bad as the CD. The boombox has no built in microphone, so if you were to connect a microphone via the AUX connection, then you could also record your voice onto cassette. However, I did not have a microphone, so I was unable to test this. In terms of portability, it's certainly portable and can be easily carried around. It can be powered by the mains, but can also be powered by 6 C batteries. The batteries don't add much to the weight, allowing you to take this anywhere with ease. In conclusion, this is a very good boombox and would do great for someone who wants to listen to music on the go, or to re-listen to their old cassette tapes (or even make a recording from the radio on cassette!)
