An authors personal account on bridge loving.
Its a great read about bridge design and does cover technicalities. This book covers bridges from Roman times to modern day mega-bridges and is home to some lovely pictures and thoughtful inspiring text. The best compliment I can post about this book is that its like reading a book about train's written by a train spotter, and I guess that is unique. If you like design and engineering, this book would be appealing to you. There are types as varied as aqueducts to tressle viaducts and more.I have seen some great bridges like the author, such as the Fourth railway bridge, and have crossed all the Tyne bridges captured in one of the illustrations and I can relate to the passion of this publication. I also live close to Brunel's Royal Albert Bridge on the cover and fell off the Tamar Bridge in the backround, so its biased wisdom but I would reccomend this to a like minded enthusiast. This book would also make a nice gift for someone who swings that way.

Very readable and informitive.
This is not a technical book as such but takes the reader from the earliest concept of bridge building to the present day.The author explains how these bridges came into being. The problems encountered, how they were resolved and just as important, the story of the people involved in the design, finance and construction.

great book
I would recommend this book, it's well written and very informative. It has inspired me to travel to some of the locations to experience these marvels of engineering. My only slight criticism - there could have been a few more images.

A good buy
I was surprised to find this beautiful hard back book was being sold for such a low price. I bought it for our Grand Son who is interested in bridges. He was delighted.

Bridge Designs Collection
One of the best books on a collection of bridge designs that I've ever come across, I'd recommend it to folks with an artistic as well as an engineering interest.
