Very good tongs at this price
I've been cooking for nearly 50 years and I haven't found tongs that I like as much as these Vollrath tongs other than the Jacobs Pride by Vollrath, which are near twice the price.*The metal is thick.*The hinge is strong*I have good control*They grip wellNon-locking is not an issue for me at all. They don't spread out very far, and I can always use a rubber band if I need to keep them more compact for storage.The 9 1/2" are the perfect size for everyday cooking.

Even better than the original!
I used to have some great tongs that had the Polar Ware brand on them. Over the years, however, they disappeared as I used them away from home and somehow managed to leave them behind (or maybe other people liked them so much they took them home for themselves). When I started looking to replace them, I found that the company had been sold to Vollrath back in 2012. I've had good luck with other Vollrath products, but I still feared that these might not be as good as my original Polar Ware tongs. I needn't have worried - these are even better! They have the exact same shape as the Polar Ware tongs, but the metal is thicker, giving them a heftier, more secure feel when handling food. Way to go, Vollrath!! My only minor complaint is that the Vollrath tongs don't open quite as wide as the Polar Ware tongs did.

Vollrath Quality. Used by the professionals.
High Quality product at good price. I try not to settle for anything less than these commercial grade utensils. Tired of the cheap crappy quality of "consumer grade" stuff

Heavy, solid and will last years
These are great tongs. Not lightweight but solid. I bought these to replave my pair that broke after 15 years of heavy use. If only everything were built to well.

Lock feature allows much greater control than similar tongs without that feature.
Very simply, these tongs are easily gripped and controlled. I had previously bought a pair with rubber tips, supposedly for picking up more fragile food, and a pair that had no lock, and neither were able to grip the food.There's not much more to say, but that these are a good buy - inexpensive and they will give you a must have kitchen tool.
