How do you get the hooks off the wall?

It's just peel and stick hooks! Like the 3m type. They just kind of peel off pretty easily!

Is the felt sturdy, and the felt board also?

No, the felt pieces are very thin and far from sturdy. The mat is also thin and not conducive to holding either the felt pieces or the cheap Velcro. They fall right off. I am SO surprised and disappointed at all the 4-5 stars given and then say they had to buy more Velcro to attach to the flimsy pieces. My fault for not reading the details. I will be returning this for refund.
