Excellent!
So much rich history has passed from top secret to obscurity without most of us having a chance to know anything about it at all. Until now--unless you were there, I guess--White Sands Missile Range has been one of those places, filled with former secrets so obsure that one wouldn't even know what to put into a question. This book changes that. It provides a terrific overview, from Trinity Site to the V-2 launches and the development of many missiles after that. Most of these projects belonged to the Army but the Navy has a significant presence there and the Air Force uses WSMR as well. The third space shuttle mission was diverted to a landing strip at WSMR and thousands of people were there to see it land. The book is filled with photos of the missiles, events and of people working and playing there from the mid-1940s until today. The captions tell the story, the pictures are great. This is a good book, one of the best in the Images of America series that I have seen.

Not worth the money
Small book, filled with old photographs with blurbs describing what is contained within the photo. Essentially no real information about the missiles and/or the range - something that would be essential if a book was to be worth anything on the area. A better resource is wikipedia, which is sad due to this being a published book.I bought the book at the White Sands Museum, which charges the full $21.99. If I had not been in a hurry (the government employees were hurrying to close the store, which is open from 8-4, but have donation slips to support the museum, maybe if it was open longer that wouldn't be necessary?) and looked at the price, I wouldn't have even considered the book for a paper weight.
