Q: Does this bag have handles?

No handles. You have to kinda grab a handful of plastic to heave the mattress around. I may have said in my first review, the plastic was thinner than I would've liked so it ripped easily. I recommend double bagging.

Q: The picture shows it only covering the top.... does this cover both sides?

You will need two to wrap the whole thing as the product page explains: "Two separate bags will be necessary if you are moving or storing a mattress or box spring." I use to it cover my moms bed when she is stays at my sisters place in another state. The material is quite good and covers her queen sized mattress and bedsheets pretty good.
