Works exactly as advertised, no mess when conditions are windy or oil is hot, great product!!

There are pretty much 4 pieces and 2 sections of this item. The two sections are main "bolt" that attaches to oil pan and the cap. The other section that attaches to the "bolt" and the hose. So to answer your question, no the hose does not stay on. The only thing that stays on your oil pan is the main "bolt" and a cap to keep dirt out.
